Strange noise

I live and work in rural Italy. I just took delivery of a US spec 2005 A4 3.0 Quatro. I am currently at 100 miles. The first time a pull away in 1st, I hear a noticable klunk from the seemingly lower left front of the vehicle.
It only does that the initial time of acceleration (usually within 5-10 ft of moving) and will not make the sound again as I continue normal stop and go driving.
However, when i restart the vehicle and pull away, i will hear the klunk again.
does this sound have something to do with the normal Quattro operation?
Appreciate the reply

hmm... does not sound normal at all... did you take delivery from a dealer? if so...I'd take it and get it checked out..

Just got a 2005 A4 myself and it does the exact same thing. What transmission do you have? I have the CVT and think it may have something to do with that. I dunno, it's not cause concern to me yet.

Guys, no sweat, it is simply the ABS mechanism - it sounds kind of like a 'crunch', coming from the front of the car, and if you happen to have your foot on the brake pedal at the same time, you feel a vibration.

AH, ok good. my other half drives the A4 so I rarely drive it, but when I do, I always find myself saying "Gawd, what the hell is that sound" whenever I pull away. Problem solved.
