I have a 90 silverado.the previous owner accidentally pulled the hood release while driving.ooopps.so i have two bows on either corner.I am going to replace the hood with another used on.I thought i might as well throw a scoop or cowl(non funtional) on for looks as i have to paint the used one.
does anyone have any ideas on how to go about building a scoop/cowl rather than buying an expensive hood.I was thinking i could cut the centre section off of the old damaged hood, take it and have the sides warped at a sheet metal shop and mig it on.this would be a first timer but im good with this sort of thing.anyone ever done this or similar???when i was young guys used to steal the top off the macdonalds resteraunt garbage cans and cut them down.just a thought.HA HA!!!
any ideas would be great.have a good one !!

I've been pondering some similar thoughts.... It seems most the scoops out there are just plastic ones that stick on with 3m tape. I was thinging of doing this and then blending the edges in with some bondo, but I didn't think the end result wouldlook that great without a tremendous amount of work, that wouldn't justify plastic non-functional scoops. Let me know if you come up with anything

That is what I would do. Just cut out the area you want gone, then weld in a hood scoop. The welded metal isn't going to crack like bondo will when it is connecting plastic and metal (which isn't really a good idea)---could use some other type of fiiler though.
But, all metal will be much cleaner and more custom looking.

If you are capable then I say do it. If you are confident in your welding & body work then I see no reason not to!

Can you buy metal hood scoops like that? I'm assuming that they are similar to the ones they put on hotrods and stuff....
