modding a 96 lx?

hey all. my mom is getting a 2005 accord soon and i might have a chance to snag her 1996 LX accord for my project car. i would keep my 2001 civic as a daily driver and i would want to turn the accord into a circuit racer. is this even feasible? im not sure how good the 5th gen (not sure if thats right?) accords are in any sort of racing but i know its pretty light and has a decent sized engine (for a 4 banger at least). so pretty much i was wondering if this is even a feasible idea? what kind of power is possible out of these engines and with what mods? also, its currently an automatic, so i was wondering how hard itd be to swap to a manual?

oh yeah, it has like 120k miles so id rip the engine out and rebuild it, and id do all teh work myself. so pretty much since everything would be out anyways i want to know what would be best. id like to go N/A if possible but if these engines dont respond well to n/a mods i guess ill consider FI. also, is this engine vtec? dohc? pretty much any info you can give me on this car would help a lot.

Okay it makes me a little nervous that you will be doing all the engine and whatever else work yourself with some of the questions your asking...hmmm. your motor, if it is an LX, is a non vtec SOHC motor, an F22B2 to be exact. it should have about 130hp and 139ft-lbs torque. You can look all this stuff up with a simple internet search. If you really want all motor you might as well just put the H22 out of the prelude into it, since your pulling the motor anyway, it's about the easiest as far as swaps go and you'll be starting stock with 190-200hp look here for more info --> http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0311scc_hybrid/index.html
you can also take the manual tranny from the prelude but putting it in the accord since it is an AT now is a bit of work. you can buy all the parts you need and you won't have to hack anything up to make it fit but there is a lot of work involved. For example, you'll need a clutch, which involves changing the entire pedal assembly not just adding a clutch and the shift lock has to be disabled otherwise the car won't start and etc.....have fun

yeah i know most of that, and im pretty good with cars i just dont really know much about the 5th gen accord since i havent researched it. pretty much u answered my question about the manual swap. i was hoping itd be easy like the 7th gen civic auto->manual swap, thats easy cause they use the same body for the manual and the automatic. so theres actually a place for the clutch pedal, and all the holes for the shift linkage cable are all there.

actually there should already be a bracket for the clutch pedal in your car as well as a place for the cmc. as there was on my 92 cb7, which is almost the same as the 94-97 cd's, except for the exterior of course. the auot to manual swap on my car was easy as shit, put the motor in one day, connect everything the next day. as for the motor thats up to you, i went with a dohc f22b (jdm), same shit as an h23, just smaller bore.shit it hangs with 99-00 si civics with no mods on in. i would say go with the h23, then boost it. pretty cheap, you mainly use parts off the 1st gen. dsm's. more info can be found by searching.
