drove my 86 4cl to school to day, nothing wong. came out and would not turn over, not just that no lights came on, could not hear the starter no clicking. came back about 2 hours later and still would not start, tried to jump it. then play withthe shifter, still nothing. i then had to push it down a small incline and drop the clutch to get it going, it barly started to. drove home, parked it, then tryed to start agin, nothing no crank, no light nothing. could it be the starter, the altrnator, the nss, what? p.s. auto store thinks it might be a bad starter.

That sounds like the alternator if the lights weren't working and no power after driving it. It should have started after you jumped it though, but if you were jumping it right, I don't know what it could be.

i went to start mart and they put a knew starter in, he said that was the problem. i started it and it did, drove to the store came out started up, and stared up agine drove home. went some were over the weekend, jeep was siting the hole time. went to start it today and started just fine. turned off, then turned back out, got a loud ticking sound, did not start. i know that it was the altronator, so i charged it and the gage on the charger was acting funny. it would go full charge, then to nothing, and back and forth. what do's that mean?
