How do you know if you have a bad front wheel bearing. I have snow tires on and its quite noisy as it is. When going straight and slight corner to the left there is a rumble or vibration. When turning to the right a bit it seems to quiet. Its a 98 Elantra, automatic with 75000 miles on the clock. Someone told me that its common for the front bearings to go early on this car. Any help would be great and also how hard is it to change. I have never done bearings on a front driver, but many times on rear wheel drive.

I have a 2001 Tiburon 5 Speed w/ about 90k miles. I have had both front wheel bearings replaced somewhere around 75k miles, under warranty. The symptoms you describe above sound similar to what I was experiencing. One side was done twice, I suspect b/c of dealer installation error. I also have a 2000 Elantra 5 Speed w/ about 80k miles on it, and it has not experienced any problems like this as of yet. Hope this helps!

There is a TSB out for that on Hyundai Webtech (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=340357). (Ironically its for both the Tiburon and Elantra)
