Hi: I am new at this. I have a 97 blazer S-10. The fuel pump intermittantly stops working. Fuel pump has been replaced twice. Fuel filter has been replaced. Relay has been replaced. Sometimes it will start but cut out immediately 2-3 times then start and run fine. Just by dropping the tank the pump will start working again. Cannot find a short in the wiring harness. I'm out of ideas. Help!

The wire connector where it plugs into the tank pump wires corrode at the connection. They turn green in color and cause a high resistence that cause the pump to burn out early and or a no run problem

Common problem with the 1997.

Caused by a defective ignition switch in the steering column.

Replace and the truck will be new again.

Trust me, search for 1997 ignition switch and you will gets loads of deatils. Cheap and effective fix.

What the first person described is more than likely the problem. If there's power going back to the tank and it still doesn't work, drop the tank and test the connector as it's probably green like the first poster noted. Sloppy work on the techs part for not catching it the second time since fuel pumps just don't go bad that quick.

If it's not getting power at the rear connector outside the tank, check the fuel pump relay (glove box) and make sure it's getting power and completing the circuit when it should. You can make a jumper from power (+30) on the relay to the trigger (+27) to see if it gets voltage at the pump. There's also a fuel pump relay by pass wire under the hood by the left front fender or firewall on older models.

If there's no voltage at relay then check switch, etc...Just don't take some persons word on it based on bullshit anecdotal evidence. Never trust anyone that says 'trust me’.

I don't wanna sound mean but it seems as though you are new to the forum. I have not found many instances where Blazer LT has been wrong in his diagnosis. If you note the number of tiems he has posted (currently 4,054) and his join date (9/15/2003), I would believe him more than you who just joined 12/7/04 and posted this one message so far. I have not found an instance where Blazer Lt has diagnosed my Blazer wrong yet. And I am sure that there are many people out there just like me. Your opinion as to what the problem may be is very much apprewciated but pelase if you are gonna post don't put down other people without having your facts straight. Thank You

Welcome to 97 Blazer anonymous
Well Blazer LT, the Infamous ignition problem strikes again. Word to the wise, If you own a 97 blazer replace the ignition switch if it doesn't fix your current problem it will more than likely prevent the future one
My experiance:
2003: blazer stalled, wouldn't crank, loss of all power to the fuel pump(sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't) THE FIX cleaned Ign. Switch. It worked fine for a year then started having tranny problems: got it scanned (5 Codes) Advice from Mechanic "New Tranny"($$$$$) The FIX
Ignition switch again. As I said earlier i cleaned it the first time this time I replaced it. I've seen other symptoms that you wouldn't beleive the ign. switch would mess up but it did.
I'm telling you the truth with my hand up so you can TRUST ME!!!!
