Key problem

Hello all.
I have a 2000 2.4JTD sportwagon. About a year ago, the remote control door lock stopped working. I noticed that the key fob now rattled so I opened it up with an Xacto knife and found that the little micro switch under the button had become unsoldered and fallen off. So I soldered it back on and away we went. Then, the spare key packed up. Suspecting the same problem I opened it up and resoldered the switch. The red LED flashed, and if I set a radio to 433.95MHz you get a loud buzz, but it did not do anything to the car. OK, so I still had one good key. Until today. The little battery flap came loose and the battery started to pop out.
I pushed it back in and tried the button - same problem as my spare key. So now I have no remote control, and opening the tailgate with shopping, coats etc. is a pain.
Any ideas? Has anyone bought a new key and if so, what did it cost? ( in the UK)
Thanks and Season's Greetings to all.

Hi I had the same problem and still have lol the price
for a new key is £70.00 and your car will be needed for at least one day as they have to re program your new config to your imobiliser and so on and so on hope this helps Brian.

Thanks for that - not as bad as I thought, but not exactly peanuts either.
Happy New Year all!
