I opened up my car to find my 2 12's in my box enclosure and my sony xplod head unit stolen. I am so angry right now, I just don't know what to do. So....I need a head unit and maybe just a bazooka tube for cheap. I can't stand listening to my tires on my 20min drive to and from work.

that sucks...all those money spent on car audio is now gone:(

i'm hoping you're not thinking about the bazooka bass tube. by no means am i against the products, but they are overrated. for the money of a tube, you're better off getting a 10" or a 12" for under a hundred. whats you're budget? i can help you look for something

probably $150-200 for a head unit and about $150 for subs...the best i can get. If I can save a little space in the trunk, that would be cool, but if not, thats fine.

Have you talked to your insurance company about this, they might help you out with it. And they didn't take your amps?

Cerwin Vega HED's should be good enough. you can get a 12" for $60.

Uhhhh, and why would locking the trunk and taking the faceplate become some magical forcefield that prevents theifs from stealing your stereo?

i know what you are going through man, i had my ish jacked too, but now im smarter as to when and where i crank it up, if im coming into park my shit is down, or if im in a neighborhood i dont like, then my shit is down, so as not to draw any unwanted attention. And dont expect your insurance company to do shit for you, mine didnt and i have full coverage.

u obviously didnt read my thread right, wouldnt locking a trunk and taking ur faceplate off prevent jackers? yes it would prevent some, maybe u should go unlock ur trunk and leave your face on since u dont believe me

You said take your face out and lock the trunk... please explain to me how thats going to prevent someone from stealing your stereo? Anyone with the right connections can get a new face plate for $100 or less... which, if you are stealing stereos would be worth it since hey its $100 face plate for a $2-300 or sometimes more cd player ~ hey you might even score and get an Alpine/Pioneer lcd screen unit...

And locking the trunk? Two words... screwdriver & hammer... and then say goodbuy to whatever was once "locked securely" in your trunk...

That's exactly how they got in my trunk...I had one of those Sony Xplod head units with the flip faceplate thats not removable, but it just looks black when parked. Worthless piece of shit if you ask me. They made it so it doesn't look like I have a good stereo when my car is off, but obviously thieves know what they look like and target them even more to steal. I'm just getting a Pioneer with a removable faceplate, and I'm taking it everywhere I go. But first thing first, I am getting a good alarm system. Can anybody suggest a good one to me that I could get from Best Buy? What are some cool features?

Many people will disagree with me, but I still must contest that a car alarm WILL NOT PROTECT ANYTHING INSIDE YOUR CAR FROM BEING STOLEN! Its a false sence of security, sorta like the club, or the autolock...

If you want to "out smart" a theif, you have to start thinking like one. I am looking to hold a chat about car security if yall are interested. Some tricks, tips, and advice as to whats cool, whats just stupid, things to avoid falling into, things to look out for and basically just overall car security. But if no one cares I can think of a better way to spend a few hours of my time!

Im going with the good ol 45 glock/beeper alarm system.
*beep beep beep*
WOooOOOsh (<--the sound of me running out to the parking lot)
click click KABOOM! SpLAT (the sound of some punks brains getting aquainted with my dashboard while jacking my radio)
There now im thinking like a thief. ;)
hehe j/k
I know the thief would have my whole damn car by the time my slow ass made it to my car. :( sad but true. Not unless i could run from the middle of X location to the middle of a parking lot in less than 45 seconds.

I am fully aware that an alarm system is a false sense of security, which for the most part does nothing. I think having one is better than not, because it could either scare the theives away, or do nothing. This is like the first time I've ever parked in a risky part of town, out in the open and I paid the price for it. Now I need to take precautious and look for a good alarm, or false sense of security.

And taking a faceplate won't stop people from stealing your deck. They'll take it, and you'll have a faceplate with no deck.

My suggestions are:
1. Do not play music loud close to home (important)
2. Get good alarm to help deter thieves.
3. For the subs. bolt them into something in the trunk, such as the floorboard or through some metal.
4. After having speakers, or subs screwed into the box, melt solder into the head of the screws so no screwdriver can loosen the subs (to undo just heat up and loosen with screw)

1. Depends on the neighborhood you live in
2. A "good" alarm will only stop MINOR thieves, any pro can have a "good" alarm system silenced in under a minute
3. Your subwoofer box should always be mounted to the trunk in some manor to prevent it from sliding around
4. NEVER solder ANYTHING to the subwoofer, any accident slip and you can cause premature and unwanted damage

Im not saying these are "bad" ideas, I mean its your stuff but really none of these things by itself will prevent the actual theft of goods. All it will do is just piss the guy off, trust me, its MUCH better to have a single busted window, a popped trunk lock and NO stereo then have the guy NOT be able to steal shit, get pissed off... and total smash all the windows, rip up the interior, and break everything in sight

If someone wants it LET THEM HAVE IT.

Its just like my buddy Tom when he said he was getting a car pager alarm... and I asked WHY he wanted one, and he said so he could catch them in the act. Now think about that for a second, so you REALLY want to put yourself in a position where you could take a stab/gun shot just to protect your $200 cd player?

I hate to admit it, but Sparq does have a damn good point. I am willing to chat with ya for some good tips and advice. I didn't think anyone would mess with my car, but about two weeks ago, someone jacked my ass. I am getting an alarm for my car. I know that it won't stop all the thieves from stealing something. But I know for a fact that the people that broke into my car are beginners. And a blaring alarm going off in the middle of the night will attract attention quicky where I live.
