My wifes 2000 Caravan stopped shifting. I assume it's in the "limp" mode. The check engine light is on. I pulled the battery cable to reset the computer and the light went out and it shifted from 1st to 2nd then when it got ready to shift to the next gear it slipped...then the check engine light camr back on and it went back into the limp mode agai. I have heard horror stories about the chrysler mini transmissions but it seems like it could be a sensor giving the computer a fault since resetting the computer lets it shift until it cycles and gets a fault again. Any ideas?

I don't know how much help I could be because I am having the same kind of troubles. A guy has just told me that it could be the input or output speed sensors. He was having the same kind of troubles as us and said he replaced those sensors and one of them was not reading at all on any of the points when he got it tested. I would start there, it would be the least expensive of all troubles and you could actually take them out and have them tested for free before replacing them. Hope this helps a little.

Chrysler products are notorious for input and output sensors going bad. Anything that is OBD2 (1996-up) should set the "check engine" light if there is a sensor failure.
