BOV Recirculated!! (Die Luke, Die!!)

Hello everybody,
Yesterday I hit my neighborhood home depot and fabricated a stealthy adapter to attach a hose to my Blitz DD blow off valve, and recirculate it into the intake stream behind the MAF.
The car ran pretty well venting to the atmosphere, but occasionally it would stall if I closed the throttle after boost and didn't shift fast enough. It also had some weird backfires while cruising. After attaching a hose to the BOV it runs much better. The BOV still sounds pretty cool, so it's a win/win situation, and only set me back about $10. I highly recommend recirculating the air in a car with an air flow meter (MAF, not MAP sensor).

Hehe. I told Luke it would take care of some driveability issues.
Another reason to recirculate that I just found out.....
Some compressor by-pass valves (recirculated blow-off valves) will open when the engine is under vacuum. That means not only sucking in unmetered air and running lean (boom), but also unfiltered air.
I don't think this is so much an issue for a stock DET with a stock CBV, but it is a factor on other cars and other CBVs. I found this out from the 944 list where I found the 951 (944 turbo) CBV and the Turbonetics CBV open at around 10 pounds of vacuum. Dangerous.

I don't have a pic of my application, but basically I took this adapter:
http://www.blitz-na.com/Image/DD1.jpg
And shoved a 2 inch section of PVS into the round opening. I cemented the PVC in, plugged up the thin slit at the bottom of the BOV opening, and cut my own gasket to seal it. Then I used my masculine charm to get the female Auto Zone employee to let me into the back and find a pre-bent hose that would fit. My car has the factory front section of the intake pipe, so it already had a tube meant to recirculate the BOV.

Dude, can't you just unbolt the "fart maker" on that thing and have a flange made to bolt onto it? From the look of it, I'd guess there is already by-pass valve attachment already available.

George, are you talking smack because of my cheap DIY mod? Oh well, you're still an inspiration to us all.
Anything that improves driveability this much for $5 is worth it in my book.
I also called around quite a bit, and there is no flange made for that BOV that will accept a hose. I even talked to Blitz (North America) and they confirmed I'd need to fabricate something. Incidentally, there's a guy named William there with a lot of RWD SR20DET experience.

Dan, why are you assuming I'm talking smack?

True. It's certainly better than venting to atmosphere, that's for sure.

K.
It looks like the "fart maker" (the little air horn thing) can be removed, leaving a flat flange on the BOV. It looks like with little effort you could remove the air horn and have a flange with a hose fitting attached made for a more secure connection.
I wasn't trash talking.

No worries. I just didn't understand what you were getting at. You're free to talk smack at me anytime you have reason too. I've lurked on the SE-R list for years, so I know you usually have a valid point when you put on the King Turd crown.
I actually went back yesterday and drilled a screw through the "fart maker" and PVC pipe to secure things. I don't have a digital camera or a scanner handy, but it looks pretty good, and I don't think I'll need to pay to have anything made.
Out of curiosity, what were the driveability issues you've mentioned a couple times? Occasional stalling and a few little backfires?

LOL!
You know, I have a reputation that is partially deserved and I think mostly blown way out of proportion to reality. I admit at one point about 2 years or so ago I became rather intolerant of certain things. I've since made a concerted effort to live that reputation down. Some things die hard. :)
And of course, many who initially thought I was King Turd changed their minds, including the guy who gave me the lable. :D

Yes, especially on overrun (closing the throttle while decelerating). Basically, anytime the valve had to open. :)
