Noise from steering wheel?

I have a 93 325is and I've noticed a noise coming from my steering wheel when I am making a turn. The steering itself is fine, just a noise that can be heard in the cabin. At first I thought it might be rubbing something but since I've noticed that it will even make the noise while the steering wheel is not in motion but under pressure such as being in a long curve. It can go days without making the noise to many times a day. eeerricck, eeerricck, is about as close as I can get to describing the noise.

Hi,have you checked your power steering oil,may be low which will cause that noise.

The car is serviced at the dealership and they check all fluid levels. How could the fluid level be making a noise coming from the steering wheel. I thought a low fluid level noise would come from under the hood? The noise is coming from inside the cabin close to where you insert the key.

I recently purchased my 1998 BMW and am having the same problem. Sqeaking noise from the steering wheel as it's turned. The dude at the BMW dealer said that it was the "slip wheel" causing the noise. I've removed the wheel to have a look but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to stop that irritating noise.:banghead:

I would like to figure out a way to stop the noise without having to by new parts. Any help would be appreciated.

It's probably a problem on the steering pump.

I would have to say no on that. The sound is too near the actual steering wheel. As another poster said I will probably just have to live with it. But for me that is not an option. The sound is too irritating. I will more than likely find a used steering wheel to replace this one.

I have no real idea why it would be coming from the steering wheel. There are many parts in the steering column that could be missaligned or what not. There is no easy way to fix this, but take out the steering column, get a wheel puller and take everything apart. It usually takes special tools. Dont forget to disable the air bag crap first.

What about the slipwheel? Are these the plastic parts located on the backside of the steering wheel? This is what the BMW dude said was causing the sound.
