Wondering if any of you have had a similar problem with your original equipment cd player. Sometimes I have to stick the cd in and eject multiple times to get it to play, one time it might play on the first time but often I end up listening to the radio cause the cd is not getting read, window just pops up 'err' and kicks the cd out. Does it sound like it's just dusty inside or am I looking at a bigger problem?
Thanks for any info.
Merry Christmas to all!

Sounds like either the CD is dirty or the CD player is going out. Have you tried another CD? Maybe go to the store and buy a new one that you've been wanting and try it.

I would take it out and have it cleaned, just sounds like it dirty to me. You can have it out in less than 3 minutes, (literally) and it shouldn't cost much for the cleaning.

I did try a brand new cd with same results. Will try to take it out and get it cleaned. Thanks for the input.

Before you do that, pick yourself up a can of Compressed air. Usually $5 or $6 at a convenience store or something like that. They usually come with a small tube that let's you pump air into tight to reach places.
Eject the CD
Stick the Tube into where the CD goes and give your CD a few Squirts of Air it may clean the laser and get the dust off it...
The other thought is to pick up a cleaning CD. I have a CD that literally has a small brush on it; the brush looks like a little eyelash. Just load it into your cd player and when it spins it will clean the laser.
Just some thoughts before hauling your CD Player out. I am suggesting this as I had the same sort of problems with mine and it was just dirty. Use to happen after I would stop the CD listen to the Radio for a bit and then play the CD again. It's been playing ever since.
I am just madden'd by the bulbs that are burnt out in mine. I'm actually thinking about upgrading in the New Year to an MP3 Player anyways....

Mine was doing the exact same thing so I pulled it out and took it in to the repair shop. Turned out it was a bad laser. Cost to repair - $100 cdn for parts and $100 cdn for labor. Cost to buy a complete replacement on ebay $96 at my door!

try the compressed air this will dislodge anything that might be caught below the level of the cd brush or to large for it to move. If laser isn't tracking properly then it would be a good time to consider replacements.

How about the brand new pioneer head unit I just bought. On some of my cd's it will skip...but in my old factory cd player they played fine. Should I try to clean it or just return it. I would hate to do that, I just installed it myself last weekend and ran all the amp & speaker wiers and shit.

Mine did same thing, Factory replacement was $600 for a the CD player, I fell out. Went to junk yard picked up one for $100 and 90 day warranty. I did not think any after market unit would look right.

Pioneer headunits, for me anyway, are almost impossible to make skip from rough driving. The only problems are scratched CDs, but even these they seem to read incredibly well.
I'm not saying pioneer is god - I really don't like anything else in their line-up - but the headunits I consider some of the best without spending a fortune.
Side note: one of the worst brands I've been in contact with was Aiwa. My friend bought one against my recommendations, and completely regretted it. To be fair, it was one of the cheapest ones they make - I don't know about their better models. This one would skip on every little crack though.

i have worked in a shop for 5 years and i would recommend alpine, pioneer, panasonice, and kenwood excelon. stay away for jvc, sony, aiwa, jensen, dual, rockford fosbreak (fosgate).
