Okay, well as most if not all of you guys know, Ripp came out with, or is currently finishing it's DOHC supercharger, which I was highly considering putting on my 3000GT. My question is, since I live in Chicago where it snows alot, it there any possibility that the supercharger'll suck up snow, or water into the engine, and hydrolock it???? Any inputs would be great, and thanks alot!

Where did you hear about hydrolock? modern systems and street SC kits wont allow that. the SC sucks up air through a regular open element air filter just like any other car. the only way a SC will hydrolock is if its a drag specific built. remember The Fast and the Furious? you remember that huge velocity stack that the charger had comming out through the hood, when he reved the three valves opened. those old style muscle cars with a breather comming out like that into the open atmosphere could suck in snow (but I think the heat would polvarize it instantly) and thats the only way you'd have a problem.

Don't you mean vaporize?

The hydrolock idea was from me...I must admit my ignorance regarding supercharging options...I admitted that I didn't know what the intake setup was like...but as with any intake system, too much water does result in hydrolock. I only suggested it, because I wasn't sure. My fault.

As long as it isn't submerged in water you'll be fine. And if your engine bay is submerged, I think you probably have larger problems to deal with.

you live in chicago ehh...wanna go cruising??? i live about 50 miles south if chicago. where abouts do you live??

BTW: as everyone stated, you wont have anymore problems with sucking water into the engine with a supercharger as much as you do now with a regular intake...

Yeah I ment vaporize (thanks Thourun, remeind me to appoint you as chief of science and alchemy when my evil army takes over the solar system)
The ripp kit has been completed on a test car, only one thus far, Ripp is still not saying even how much for the complete kit but its done and should be out soon enough. the intake location has not changed from the original design. the intake is an open air filter located forward of where the stock air box was just a bit closer to the fuse box, you'll have a tough time getting water into it unles you go driving in a 3 foot deep pudle.
as for hydrolock, it does happen its just these days the technology is highly preventive and therefore less comon to hydrolock a SC, I expect that kind of knowledge from Igovert cause he knows his stuff really quite well but Rocker is starting to impress me with his tech questions.
I will be working with Igovert to add a SC area to the FAQ, I appologize for the delay but it should be done by next week. I'll drop you a big ass BOOYAAH once I finish it!
