What in the world is Jay doing making a thread in this forum?!?
Well, I'm posting my first progress thread of 2004! :D
This will hopefully be my #2 completed project of 2004.
It'll be TS42 Light Gun Metal with a blue + off-white interior.
The dashboard is way off; it's for the wrong car altogether. Oh well. It's getting built anyway. :dunno:
The floorpan is getting another layer of flocking, too. It looks a little thin, and even moreso in this view.
Ummm... yeah. So here's a pic:

(it's in a food dehydrator, btw)

old German cars rule :) But I am a little partial, so ignore me.
Can't wait to see more. Whats with the wrong dashboard? Is it that the dashboard was molded incorrectly by the kit manuf. or that this is a different dashboard from another car?

cool car! A little off topic but this is related to the BMW 507, somewhat. I built an Airfix ford tri motor plane for a former pilot, incidentally he flew the same exact plane as the replicated by the kit, markings and all. To top it all of, he owns a red 1960 507. Can't wait to see the finished car :)

Wrong BMW altogether.
Here's the best of the crappy pics I took of the kit part (semi-painted):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SilverS2000/kitDash.jpg
I have a couple hundred 507 reference pics, and all the dash boards look like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SilverS2000/507V2006.jpg
(that's the basic interior scheme I'm using, BTW, except blue carpet instead of tan.)
During my search for 507 pics, I figured out the only pic I had where the dash looked [remotely] like the kit part was this one:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SilverS2000/2002__al80_27a.jpg
However, going back to the source for that pic, I found this zoomed-out pic of the same car, which revealed that it clearly is not a 507, though it did happen to be parked next to one, which is how I found the page in the first place:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SilverS2000/2002_al80_23a.jpg
A few details or knobs are missing or fudged, but it's about a 90% match for the dash in the red car. Turns out the other car is a BMW 503, which, according to bmwworld.com, "was not as elegant [as the 507] and was more expensive." The thing is, I don't know if they ever made a 503 kit. I think they just looked at the wrong car when they made the master...

Good to see you on the mission Jay, I have one more thing to observe, if the dashboard is like in 503 (derivate from limo and not a pure beauty like 507) then you could have problem with wrong windshield also and that would be bad.
Just remark, great to see it done, I love BMW cars.
Edit:than again check this out

Excellent!! Thanks so much for that. :bigthumb: I'd had some research issues over the fuel door, too, so...
A bit more research after that reveals that the 507s were made in two runs; the Revell kit is of a series 1 car, with the early (503-esque) dashboard and the fuel door before the trunklid, instead of on the right fender. I have no idea how many of the 250-or-so 507s were made in each series, but judging from the dashboards and fuel doors on the pics I've collected (an arbitrary sample, I know), this is the rarer type...
Also, there is in fact a 507 here in my town, in the Imperial Palace Auto Collection. However, it is one of three 507 chassis that did not get (or keep) the original body work... ;)

Fascinating car, but not that much help to me in building a stock 507. But I should go look at it anyway... :D

I just completed the premium version of the Revell kit with all the metal parts. Just gave you a link, to save me posting the pics here again.
