Low idle, stall, electrical surge

I'm driving a 1992 trooper with 125K miles. Runs great! However, I've got an intermintent problem that seems to occur after the vehicle is warm.

Once warm, the speedometer will quite working. When this happens, once I come to a stop, I notice low engine oil pressure, an extremely low idle, and then the vehicle will stall. Also while driving, the check engine light will come on. It stays on for about a minute and then shuts offe.

I also notice that while driving for an extended period of time, I get something that seems like an electric surge. Several dash lights will come on; the battery charge indicator pegs at 16, and the headlights brighten up. This last for anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds. Doesn't seem to effect performance or driving.

I don't know whether or not the problems are connected.

Anyone experiencing anything similar or have ideas to what the problem might be?

I am having a very similar problem. Did you ever find a solution?

My idle speed drops below 1,000 and then the vent blower turns off, and the battery and low fuel alert lights come on and stay on. I can drive it fine, but it idles really low. I think the low idle may be causing too low of power from the alternator to keep the elec system running.
