hi all. First time poster in the forums.I find your help Extremely helpful and thanx to all.i have a 1989 jeep cherokee loredo st8 6.. 4L. i must have a short somewhere because if i forget to shut off the blower or defrosters it must drain the battery because the next day bfore work it will turn over slower than usual. . so, the 2 days ago thayt was the case. except i heard a grinding type sound as if the starter was seizing. First replaced the celanoid. still no good. then i jumped the starter from uner the car and not a sound. so now i changed the stater and turned the key with no luck. so now i go under the car to jump the new starter and boom, starts right up no problem. Next, just for the hell of it, i tried to turn the key as the car was running to see if there was any comunication between the key turn and the stater, and nothing happened. that god awful noise that we all encountered when first learning to start a car never accured.my question is, do you think the ignition switch went bad? and if so, how do i replace it. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post

Get a Haynes manual, there is a step by step write up on the R n R of the ignition switch.Which is located on top of the steering column, along with the dimmer switch.

you may want to check your starter relay, located next to the battery. If you have a test light, probe the center connection or the one that says SOL, and see if the is power there when you turn the key to the start position, the should be bat. voltage

You may want to test your starter relay, next to the battery. Check for power at the SOL terminal, i think its the center one, there should be power there when turning the key to the start position, if not then could be the ignition switch.
