88 s10 pickup starting problem

drove my s10 for 2 years everyday parked it for 2 months did a tune up the works. had trouble starting it at first now wont start at all. seems like it wants to but then backfires out of intake (carb/fi). have spark in end of spark plug wire. have fuel in intake. changed the coil not the prob. im a novice so help is greatly appreciated. would like to know the order of plug wires on dist. cap for sure if anyone knows thanks in advance

I don't have the plugs wire diagram.

Anyone else know the plug wiring diagram for this year? Anyone?

Also, check you timing with a timing gun.

4 or 6 cyl. what size motor?
4 cyl cylinder order are all from front to rear 1,2,3,4
but position on cap are all different. 2.8 and 4.3 v6
cylinder order are opposite of each other. so really need
size motor you have.

checked plug wires - got the diagram everything is ok. Must be something else.

plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, also replaced tps about a month ago. its a 4.3 by the way

i bought a brand new one but haven't installed it yet. But i get fuel to the intake. The major symptom I have is backfiring through the intake??? I'm puzzled

Could be from not getting enough fuel.

also, get your truck timed with a timing gun with the timgin wire disconnected from the computer.

I always heard that if your backfiring throught the intake its a timing issue. I dont have a gun but i can get one. In the meantime I'm gonna loosen the dist and turn it to see if it is timing issue. If I can get the truck running I'll get a hold of the timing gun and set it correctly I guess. I dont think I have any other option at this point. I love my old truck and would hate to have to get rid of it over something like this.

Time the vehicle with a timing gun, don't start fucking around with the distributor.

Also, remember the timing wire.

Do it right, or don't do it at all.

None of this half ass job shit.

how can you use a light when it wont start? i believe that is the problem, right. not questioning you LT , just reminding you. i do respect your advice.

You can check it by turning over the engine and checking the rough timing.

id go ahead and put on that new pump and take LTs advice and check timing.

Just because the engine is not running doesn't mean there isn't spark going to the cylinders.

It is a rough measurement for when the timing is really out of whack and you can't get it started.

Distributors have been known to come loose and rotate by themselves.

make SURE U CHECKED a GOOD diagram because i had the same thing and i got the diagram from i think s10blazer.com or s-10 SOMETHING but it was mesed up the diagram so i took it to a friend of mines that's a mechanic and his like WTF u doing this is all wrong but it will fuck up your started cause it fucked up mines just be carefukl
