On my 96 2500 truck, it has the dual inlet muffler. I plan on removing the stock exhaust right before the muffler and running duals with 90's out the sides.
My question is, after removing the muffler and tailpipe, will I need a
balancer tube between the dual pipes? I have it figured out how I can
fit the H pipe in and install two really short glasspacks behind it. But, I dont know if glasspacks are what I want or not.
Otherwise, what is a good CHEAP dual in/dual out muffler? Everything I have found is right up there around $100.00 or more.
Please help!!
Thanks.

Well first i will tell you what i have. I had the same dual inlet muffler on my 97 z71. I had it removed and from there I ran 2 1/2" duals out the back through 4"x18" tips. I get comments all the time on how it sounds and it is extremely loud and deep which is what i was looking for at the time. I would recomend this instead of glasspacks. It still will cackle nicely if that is what you want. However if I was going to do it again i would use a balance pipe, i hear it will make the sound a little smoother and it is supposed to give you the most power from dual exhaust.
About the cheap mufflers, go to ebay and you can get new flowmasters for a good price. Hope i helped.

I've got a 97 with dual glass packs, 2 1/4" tail pipes and 3" tips, the glass packs have gotten really worn in and it has a rumble down low, but when you open it up it turns into a real nice cackle. If you do go with glass packs get good ones the cheap ones burn out and fall apart to quickly.

On my 97 i sawed the muffler off welded two flowmaster 40 series delta flow's on, then two 90's and two pieces running out in front of the tire. If you get a muffler i would recomend an origional 40 series cuz they are a lil deeper and remember, if it's cheap it will sound cheap. i did mine by myself and it cost around $210. oh and i wouldnt bother with a balancer pipe.

What year/models did they start using the dual inlet muffler? my 1993 k1500 has a single in dual out magnaflow muffler that I've been pretty happy with, but I wouldn't mind switching to dual all the way back. I wonder if the stock exhaust manifolds would bolt onto the engine and fit alright. I have very limited welding experience so I wouldn't want to jump in over my head, but replacing manifolds and a new muffler I can handle.

Do the 40's produce a lot of resonance in the cab??
I hear ya about the cheap/sound cheap thing.
I am thinking of just installing the system as it comes, but instead of straight out the back I would put 45's on it. I dont want straight out the back cuz EVERYBODY has that around here!!
