Just wanted to ask a general question about which truck tire you all prefer, not an all weather pavement pounder, a truck tire. Currently im runnin a set of mud kings that have around 10k on them and are prolly less than half the tread depth as new. These tires are awesome for general offroading and deep mud but other than that i have not a single good thing to say about them. I'm curious how they do in the snow.
I want to get Goodyear MT/R's for my next set, which saidly will be before long.

your going to be very unhappy with the goodyears as well, they will wear just as fast if not faster and their noise. my budy owns a tire shop and we have both done are fare share of mudding over the years
If your looking for a some what agressive tire that wears good and has little road noise than go with BFG

I have BFG MT's on my silverado at the moment. I have in total approx 36000km's on them and still have approx 1/2 tread left. I am pleased with the preformance so far on and off road as well in the snow, but they SUCK big time in icy conditions. Like the guy where i bought them said , they are like a whale on ice

I have the Bridgestone Dueler AT's on my 98 Z71 and so far I have gotten 78,000 out of them...

BFG MT - Nice looking and decent off road
BFG AT - Not a bad tire, not sure it's worth the money tho
Goodyear MT/R - awesome off road, not sure about wear but i know a kid who has them on a Superduty Ford and has had them a long time
Cooper Discoverer - decent tire
Mudking XT - never heard of them but judging by your post nothing fancy
Sportking XT - never heard of it
Bridgestone dueler - depends on Revo or regular, me and dad run the Revo's and from experience they're not bad, in the mud if you keep em spinning they clean out awesome, haven't had them in snow yet, they throw rocks A LOT and are suppose to have decent tread wear
Firestone Destination MT - was orginally going to put these on my truck, these gotta be my favorite tire, gadamn are they mean lookin and they are AWESOME off road, not sure on the wear but Firestone's are pretty good, might wanna look at their new Destination A/T's too
General Grabber - cheaper tire but you get what u pay for with these
Toyo Open Country MT - expensive but i think they are more show than go, but i'll bet they aren't too bad off road
Mastercraft Couser MT - never heard of
ProComp MT - i hate procomp, sorry dont get em, knockoff of the BFG except they are far more worthless
Mickey Thompson Baja Claw - also expensive but awesome awesome tire, might consider the Dick Cepek FC-II also
Some type of Super Swamper - Superswampers are great, the Thornbirds i'm sure wouldnt be too bad if u want to retain from going to something meaty and noisy, otherwise they are meant to be in the mud i think
Other - Nitto - check out their Mud Grappler and Terra Grapler, awesome tires, also Hercules tires, they have some M/T tires that sort of resemble the Nitto Mud Grappler

How many miles are you looking to get on a set of tires and what are you willing to sacrifice for the looks/performance?

I want a tire that can will tear thru dirt and have no problem handling deep mud; while also havinf decent traction on the road and something that i can get around 30,000-40,000 miles on. appearance or brand of the tire means nothing as to me as long as it performs, also i find it to be rediculous to pay $150 per tire.

I paid 180 per tire installed/balanced/new valve stem/5 year road hazzard, yes 5 year road hazzard warrenty. I was shocked considering they call the bfg mt an off road tire. Plus life time flat fixes and rotation for my 255/85/16's

For the Nitto Mud Grappler and Toyo Open Country M/T the smallest size they make is a 35" tire and they're gonna be pretty expensive, same as all the other Super Swampers as that TRXUS is the only one I could find in a 265/75, I was gonna recommend a Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip but they also dont make that size tire and are pretty expensive. I hope that this helps you, I really would lean towards the Firstone or Bridgestone as they have a nice build quality too them and should give you what you want.

I have Dunlop Radial Rover R/T's on my 86 Silverado, and they do great in everything except wet clay/mud mix (not enough spacing between tread lugs). They even do very well in every other kind of mud. Traction on ALL surfaces other than that hated clay/mud mix is excelent.

A friend of mine who has a Jeep runs Mudking M/Ts, and they do good offroad. Not sure about on-road.

I run 38in. TSL radials great off road and okay on as far as noise and handling/traction goes but they wear real well I don't drive mine much on the road much and have no odometer but I have been runnin this set for oh about 2years and still have 3/4 tread.

Good god I thought this thread died long ago. Anyways I love the STT's, the self clean well in thick mud and the lugs make going over anything easy. And as far as I can tell they are wearing really well. $155 each, not bad IMO.

I've always been pretty happy with the Cooper Discoverer... they do great in the snow, which is important where I live. The only problem with mud and high traction tires is that they typically have a short treadlife-- you can pretty much expect the more traction they have, the faster they will wear out. I've gotten used to just keeping 2 sets-- my street tires and my offroad/snow tires.... probably have 60K on my street tires with about 50% tread left and 15K on my offroad tires that are down to 25-30%.

all i can really say is if you have a 4wd vehicle, make sure you get all new tires at the same time. my friend only purchased 2 new wheels for his suv. when it rained and he went to engage the 4wd, it would thump out at 40 mph+. he went to a few dealerships that all said the transfer case oil needed to be replaced.. something that would cost around $200. I took a look and thought about it for a while and it seemed the difference in the circumfrence of the tire was enough to mess with the transfer case. The rear wheels would turn 1.1 times for every 1 turn of the front (estimated). I told him that thats why the transfer case was popping out, and sure enough the problem was solved when he replaced the two front tires.

That's pretty odd. My truck has 30 inch tall tires on it when new, now if those tires were turning 1.1 times more than say the fronts then the front tires are around 27.25 inches tall. Thats' 2.75 inches of wear, I highly doubt that. Most truck tires are half an inch deep, mine are 19/32 deep. Now from full tread to completely bald that's only half an inch one way, so an inch MOST difference in diameter. A 1.1:1 ratio is like having a 30 inch tire up front, and a 33 inch tire out back, that's a big difference, and definatley not the same size tire. My point is that no tire could be off that much unless a different size. Only other way is possibly a different manufacturer of the tire, but even then size variances shouldn't be that great. I don't think that the tires would have anything to do with fluid in the transfer case either.

Oh, and having to use four wheel drive in the rain = :loser:

Yeah different tire companies may be the cuplrit. Hooray also for those 92 Silverados, except the paint on mine sucks!

haha.. i've heard that from a lot of people.. its either the paints really really good or it just flakes off... id rather have the bad paint than rust though.. luckily i have good paint and no rust

I worked in a tire shop for a long while, we were partially owned by Goodyear. In all the tires I saw any of the Goodyear tires were scrap. With few exceptions and they were car tires. I feel that if you were to go with BFG you'll never go wrong.

Im currently running a set of Firestone destination on my 93-Z71, but in my opinion a good tire that you can run up and down the roads and aint to soft as to wear out quickly then i think Cooper Discoverers fair pretty well. In the other extreme and just want to mud then Super Swampers are it hands down. Now if you want to mud on a budget then find a tire dealer that sells Grand Prix tires there mud tire has a real nice aggressive tread for a lot less dough than the Super Swampers. Just my .02 cents!

i have a truck that doesn't do off-road duty.
it does streets.
very quickly.
and BFG's are the shit.
front 265/50/15
back 295/50/15
i've been over a few dirt roads, but it's got a drop on it to further hamper my off road abilities.

I had trouble with cooper tires.. they don't hold up ..warrantee sucks .

I have had good luck with Cooper tires, this model is very new. Look like a very nice tread pattern. I know the ATR(previous model) was a good tire, I have one friend that loves the last version
