Blown Channel???

I have a kenwood 1000 watt hooked up to 2 alpine 1241 R-types, I now have them bridged, and only one sub is working, when i run them in a series, like normal, they sound shitty, not loud, not really any bass, alot like a blown speaker, but, when bridged, the one working speaker really hits, so i know my sub isnt blown. All my rca cables and speaker wires are intact i believe, my fuses are fine, and my fise holder isnt blown either. Im just wondering what happened... Any ideas? THX

what impedance are the subs and what specific amp is it

Are they bridged together on the same channel? Or bridged on seperate channels on a 4 channel amp? if they are on the same channel, then your sub is bad, if its seperate channels, just change the wires to see if your working sub works on the other channel. then you'll know.

Sounds like your amp just cant put enough power to your subs when in series. SR20 is right, what is the impedence and what kind of amp. a "1000 watt kenwood amp" doesnt help at all. Sounds like your either bridging your amp wrong, or when your bridging your amp in parallel your putting to low of a load on your amp. If im right, only thing i can tell you is get a better more powerfull amp stable at lower ohms

Im not sure about the specific model #, it doesnt say it on the amp itself, but it is a two channel, and the subs are 4 ohms. And the sub isnt bad, I hooked up the bridged it the other way around, and the other sub worked just fine. So it is a blown channel? Oh and if you have any recommendations for an amp. I want something real reliable, and 1000+watts at least. And how about a AUDIOBAHN A4801T ? good or bad

There is no blown "channel". You might be bridging it wrong. So your subs are single 4 ohm? No, im pretty sure those subs are dual 4 ohm. In this case when your 'bridging' your amp, you are running it at a 1ohm load if in parallel. An your kenwood amp is prob. not stable at 1ohm. If you are using this just for subs get a Mono amp, not 2 channel. Dont get audiobahn. whats your price range for an amp?

I'd like to keep it under $400, something thats not gonna overheat easily and if you could tell me like what additional equipment you might recommend (capicator, special wiring, etc. thx)

capacitors are always good. Just dont get a super cheapy one. Audiobahn amps are good. Rockford amps have trouble with transmitting outside noise through your subs, I'd personally rather have a 1000 watt Xplod than a rockford, unless its an older model rockford, but their new ones suck. If you have 400$ to spend on an Audobahn amp I promise you'll be happy with it, even if these other guys think audiobahn is the scum of the car audio equipment.

$400 will get you something much better than Audiobahn, something that both sounds better and is more reliable

the order that I would get those in is the xxk, then the cadence, then the kar, then the brutus

and don't waste your money on a capacitor, if you find that you have a dimming problem then upgrade the magic 3, if you still have a problem then upgrade the battery

Capacitors are usless in fact most of the time they hurt your audio system.....think of it as a bandaid it doesn't fix the problem. And fosgate amps are not bad sefinately WAAAY better then audiobahns. The power 1000, 2000, and 3000 are good amps. And I find it funny that Sony Xplod 1000watt (more like 200watt) amps are preferred over fosgate LMAO.


OK 400 is a nice budget. if the subs are dual 4 ohm look at avionixx 1200.2's 800.2 ED nine.1's hifonics bx1500d's memphis 1000d fosgate power 1000. NOTE that you will not need the full power form these amps and you will have some headroom cept w/ the 800.2.

If an amp is stable at 1 ohm, is it stable at 2&4 too? And what are the "magic 3"? And should i stick with another 2 channel amp, or go for the mono?

Amps are rated stable down to a certain impedance, they're perfectly fine with anything above that, though they'll produce less power.

magic 3 is wiring under the hood, you can run a search for more specifics as I'm pretty lazy right now and it's all over on here

you can get a 2ch or a mono, doesn't really matter. A 2ch will give you class AB sexyness and the ability to use it on a front stage sometime in the future, a mono will generally give you a higher efficiency, and maybe some extra goodies like a subsonic filter or a remote gain knob.
