need help I am getting my blazer ready for winter and I was checking out the 4x4 and when I push the toggle button some times I hear the solenoid on the transfer case engage and some times not .when it dose the light on the button will come on for a second then go back off while looking for electrical problems I seen where my loving dog chewed the wires off my front axle solenoid so I replaced bad wirers but still no luck .it also seems to try to lock in easier in neutral but still will not stay engaged . My blazer is a 94 s-10 4.3 w 4x4 I could use any and all help thanks

Check the eletronic shifter [encoder]. Also something I seen on here for a temp fix or check. Unplug your negative side battery for 30 mins. Then hook it back up and check. resets puter. I guess your encoder is going bad or is bad.

Thanks for the info I unhooked my neg .bat. cable for a few minute and that didn’t do any thing thin I did the positive cable and it worked a couple of times till I backed it out of the garage now it is back to only trying to work in neutral again . I read the other post and if the encoder is the little motor on passenger side then I can hear it engaging when I can get the light to work

Dealer cost for a encoder with 1 year warranty $400. Junk yards $100-$150. Ebay $100. Sounds like you need one.

Tonyfdny do you still have the encoder motors? I think that I may need one I am having the same problems as countyboy mine is also a 94 4.3 with the vortech motor, it will not go into 4HI or 4Lo unless I disconnect the battery, leave it for a while and reconnect but it only stays on for a little while.

under the driver side lower panel is the ALDL test connector. there should be a black plastic connector with 2 rows of 6 spots the top right is pin a then going to the left is pins b,c,d,e,f, on the lower 2nd row starting on the right is pins m then going to the left is pins l,k,j,h,g
What i want you to do is take a jumper wire from pins j and a and turn the ign key to run(do not start the truck) and look at the 4wd lights will flash a code get that code so I can help pin point the problem
also I want you to just turn the ign key to the run position with out the jumper wire on pins j and a and tell me what the 4wd lights do. I have the trouble tree for that system with me right now

Ok here is what I got.
With the jumperwire plugged in A and J with the key turned on the run position I got 3 flashed on the 4x4 switch and that was both lights. With the wire out of the connector and the key turned to the run position I got nothing.
Let me know what you find out
Thanks
Dave
