Front bearing cap question.

Hi guys, I was wondering if it's totally necessary to have the front bearing caps on the front wheel hubs. The bearings will not be exposed, they will be behind a new wheel center cap that wont allow the caps to be in place.

If the grease for the bearing is exposed to the air, then dirt/etc will be able to get in there, even if the center caps are on. If the center caps seal things up, then you should be ok.
