KC rear fog light

Another recent project. This baby oughta piss some tailgaters off! Who said anything about fog? :devil:

Um, rear fogs are mandatory in Europe and if they weren't legal in the States, then the Europeans wouldn't be allowed to sell cars here with them. So there!!! :finger: Oh, and none of my lights are more than 55W and the rear fog is 35W.

The real reason I got it is because the taillights on the X are pretty weak. In heavy rain, fog, or in dust, you can't see the back of the Xterra even up close because the rear lights don't have enough to break through. The rear fog will allow better visibility of my truck by other motorists or club members on trips.

Someone's jealous.

The KC rear fogs are the same thing as the backup lights, but with a red lens.

I think KC sells the lenses separate too so those that have backup lights can conver them if they want.
(You'd have to do a little re-wiring too)

You must have a defective Xterra.
The brake lights in my Xterra are 27 watts, just like every other brake light on every other vehicle sold in the USA. They are also just as bright as every other taillight out there, because 27 watts is 27 watts.

The reason I made my post is because you don't seem interested in anyones safety. Rear fogs are useful, if used correctly. You seem to want to use it to blind people behind you. Last month it was driving around with 6 bulbs burning up front blinding oncoming drivers.

First your headlights are too dark, now your tail lights... what's next ?:confused:

BTW, I've never seen a BMW with rear fog lights, or an Audi, or a Porsche, or a Saab. Exactly who is selling cars in America with rear fog lights ?

My buddies A4 has the fog integrated in the rear lights.
When you hit the switch the left rear lamp goes brighter.

Well I had a chance to check out Charles' fog light tonight. It's bright, but not overpowering. I can see how it would be a great benefit during foggy nights, or when we do dusty roads on the way to trails and have lots of problems seeing each other (we radio for all members to turn on their emergency flashers because those are the only things that break through the dust)..

I know XOC has visual powers beyond mortal man through pictures, but I see it as a useful mod, especially since it's switched and can be used at the drivers discretion.

I guess I have the advantage of knowing Charles, and realising that he is a concious driver when it comes to such things and know a little bravado on the boards is just that. Tonight we were discussing switching options to optimize the use of accessory lights while negating their accidental effects on oncoming drivers.

I had a rear foglight on my Audi and in those 5 years I never once used it unnecessarily. I don't drive around with 6 bulbs blinding oncoming drivers either, and all my lights are aimed low. I do drive around with fog lights on because otherwise I can't see the side of the road where pedestrians and animals may be; not to mention guard rails and such. The Xterra lights have no spread at all from side to side: Very poor! Anyway, you need to stop taking things so seriously. Jus because I say I want to blind all the other assholes on the road doesn't mean I actually do it. If that were the case I'd skip the lights and just start using the ARB to push them off the road alltogether. Maybe I shouldn't have said that?

As far as the brake lights go on the Xterra, you're right, they are plenty bright. What I'm talking about are the running light taillights. In heavy rain and fog you have to be pretty close to the back of an Xterra to see the lights. There have been times on Xcursions too where the dust was so thick the only things I could see was the spare tire ont he roof of the Xterra ahead of me. Those without tires on their roof were invisible.

Anyway, this is a safety aid and a 35W red light on the back may be annoying when used improperly, but that's the worst it can be. It doesn't blind people and it's anything but unsafe.

Oh, and although I turned it on at Schlud's for a demonstration, I think he can confirm that I turned the light off before driving away.

BTW Chuck is more than a "concious" driver as I stated in my previous post, he's "consceientious" as well. :D

Unbelievably, I'm actually more likely to be conscientious than concious! :D Although, I've been known to slip up on both counts in Seattle traffic. Thanks Schlud!

Are you going to look at some protective stuff for it in case you back into anything?? Light guards etc? Although they do mess with the light a bit. One of these day when I get some extra time I might put one in - it would be a handy addition for what I get up to.

Yeah - my X is wearing new plastic shrouding on the rear from a slide-in incident with a tree. It sucked but I am glad that stuff is so cheap. Good 'ol Xterraparts.com:)

kinda seems like the guy in that first link is pretty jealous of BMWs and such
