I just changed the fuel filter ( it hasnt been changed for 55k)... previouse owner!!!

Any way i put everything back together and when i turn the car on it idels at 400 rpms and when i put it in gear it just stalls.

need more specifics. when you changed your fuel filter, did you disconnect the battery? if so, when you put everything back together, your ECU will need about 15 mins or so to relearn everything. stupid i know, but this is how our cars work.

another possibility-->check the MAS plug to see if it is plugged in. i know many time when working around that area, a job that requires moving the intake, the MAS will be unplugged. and when its all put back together, it is quite common for one to forget to plug it back in. the result would be a fluctuating idle (500-1500) and possibly a low idle. but definitely when you let off the gas, the car would die.

so check that over, and get back to us.

Well i let it sit for more then 15 minutes and it still ran crappy. And i checked and double checked the mas. So the only thing that i think it could be is fuel related.

:dunno:

did you make sure the fuel filter is going the right direction??? there should be an arrow that says "to motor" or something...fuel filters are direction sensitive. so make sure it is facing the right direction...

Did you happen to unplug the TPS, ot IAC?

I dont mean to sounds stupid but what is the TPS and IAC?

TPS=Throttle postiion sensor. Its on the front of the throttle body. The IAC=Idle air control. It it on the left side of the throttle body(looking at it from the front) and below the opening. Good luck.

how long was the fuel filter off before re-starting the car?

if it was over a long period you could be suffering from an air lock in the system, unusual in a petrol car but possible.

failing that check all hoses inc vaccuum hoses and electrical connectors.

Why not just take it to a mechanic? This thread has been around for a while.

Checking your IAS/TPC is a good idea, also make sure your Idle screw thingy is set properly. You shouldn't be idling at 400RPMs in the first place.

If you rev the engine when you change gears ala Double Declutching does the car still die?

Yes, When I put my foot to the floor it takes like 10 seconds just to get to 1 grand.
And when I put it in gear it just dies.

your sure that fuel filter is facing the right direction...it sounds like its not getting enough air or fuel.

also make sure you check the throttle cable/linkage. there should be hardly any play in the cable.

Check your fuel lines also, just a thought. If you have a multimeter I'd check the MAF and stuff.

Ok well i checked my guel lines and thats not what it is.

What would make a car idle so low if its not the fuel lines?

Its not the cable, even when i rev it up under the hood it is still slooow pickup.

what year is the car? You might want to take it to an autozone or somewhere where they can check OBD2 codes.

Car might be in limp mode.

check your idle set screw. it sould be on the back of the intake manifold, maybe, dunno, it is on a 240sx :P it should be a flat head screw.

Goto a mechanic.

The idle screw in on the TB itself. If its revs slow it sounds like your MAS is unplugged.

an unplugged MAS would cause the idle rev to fluctuate. it will rev up to about 1500 then down to around 500, then possibly die. but definitely check to see if the MAS is unplugged.

My mass air flow senser is plugged in and it still does it.

it doesnt misfire??? just low idle. sounds like you may have a massive vacuum leak. make sure you didnt accidentally disconnect any vacuum hoses???

try cleaing the harness to the MAS....

did you check the fuel filter to see if it was facing the correct direction?

check the throttle position sensor???

check the fuel pressure?

try disconnecting the battery cables to reset the computer...

Or go see a mechanic... they'll find out what's wrong...
