4x4 problems 93 Wrangler

I don't believe when I shift into 4 hi that everything is working as it should. I have a 3" body lift with 33"x12.50 tires on it. I also have installed the manual cable for engaging the front drive shaft. I put the transfer case into 4 hi and inch forward a few feet while engaging the front axle. I feel the axle engage fine. In bad weather( little snow on the roads) the Jeep runs fine. If I go up a steep hill or get on the gas, it feels like the back tires will break free and spin but the front tieres don't seem to spin at all. Nothing is leaking, no grinding out of the front axle either. As far as I know everything is engaged so it should be working fine. Is this a case of the wide tire size with the light weight of a Jeep?? I have some stock tires but haven;t tried them yet. I got stuck in my yard on a small hill during the summer , I was only on the grass but again it didn;t feel like the front end was pulling at all. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello there to see if your ok. lift one front tire off ground while in 1st gear, 4wd, and see if your can spin tire. you shouldnt be able to. if you can then email me and ill help you out more. [email protected]

Sounds like maybe your cable isn't fully engaing the axle together. To check this, engage the front axle, lift the tires off the ground, when you spin one, the other should spin the same probably reverse fromt he direction your turning the other tire. If this is working, then look at your T-case. Place it in gear, tires off the ground you should see your tires rotate too.

Thanks for the help. My front axle engages fine. Lifted one front tire off the groung and it spins while in 4 hi with front axle engaged. The front drive shaft spins. If I repeatedly shift in and out of 4 wheel drive, eventually it will engage after about 6 tries and the front tire doesn't spin. I know there is the linkage adjustment rod on the bottom of the shifter assembly but I'm not sure whiich way to adjust it or if it even needs adjustment.

From your description it sounds like the axle is ok, and the transfer case is the suspect. With the 3" lift you may have a shifter or alignment problem, I'd check the driveline angles.

When you did the lift, was there a spacer to lower the transfer case/transmission?

There is nothing to adjust on that unit. I would guess you have internal shifting linkage failure. not knowing for sure unless I can see it. there is a cam in side transfercase that works a few different thing as you pull your shifter, that may be warn down and not throwing the coupler over the shaft. if you are capable, pull transfercase out and take it apart. it’s a simple thing to do. or have someone else look at it to know for sure. let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
