Hi,
How much of a pain is it to replace a multifunction lever on an 85 Caprice ? I think the wiper controls may be worn out. Low, High, and intermittent don't work at all today. Yesterday they were working, but not properly.
I can't see any screws to remove to get the lever out, or to remove the steering column.
Thanks

find the wiring harness connection under the dash and disconnect them. Then just pull on the lever. It will come out.

Are you sure it's the switch? How about checking the electronics under the hood on the wiper motor.
There's a circuit board that also causes problems.

Well, I replaced the circuit board / washer pump combo yesterday, and the wipers work again, but they stll are weird. They park after each sweep. Only intermittent works normally.
And if I use the high setting, the motor squeals and smoke comes out of the motor (or maybe the washerpump that is mounted to it) !!! I am serious. I'm afraid to use the high setting.
Maybe the motor is going bad. Squealing is just not right. Would a bad motor make the wipers park after each sweep? Maybe the bad motor is screwing up the circuit board? Jeez.

Ii just installed a rebuilt wiper motor which also had the washer pump / circuit board on it, and everything works right ! :)
