internal lights short

Here is the problem. when I turn the lights on the headlight turn but the internal lights and back park lights short out. My mechanic tried to separate the wires to different fuses but all it did was burn the wires in the loom. So Now I have only front headlights. The florecent display works but the dimmer doesn't, the dashboard lights and buzzer for lights left on do not, and the rear parking lights do not either.
