I hate working in the snow

Any car enthusiat who lives where it gets cold knows what a miserable bitch it is to do any kind of work on your car outside.
Well, it's been snowing all day............... :disappoin
My one-car garage has my Mustang in it, getting a cylinder head-ectomy.
My jeep needs an oil change and a new wheel bearing assembly (it rumbles too much) so...I have to do this in my driveway, IN THE SNOW!!!!!
I hate this crap.............I used to have access to a big, heated shop at work, but that's long gone now, so its back to the snow.
Now, if I drop a bolt in the snow.....its a bitch to find.....and when I DO, it STICKS to your hand because it's FREEZING, then it peels the skin off!!!
If I don't find the bolt....well the next time I use the snow blower, the auger will pick it up and fling it through the kitchen window.
And what do I hate most??? That I am such a CHEAP BASTARD I don't want to pay a mechanic $300 for something I can do on my own in a couple of hours!!!

I'm in southern Ontario..
Oh look I will have NO PROBLEM today!!
The temperature has SHOT UP to 30 deg. F. WOO HOO!!!!
Time to get the shorts out!! :grinno:
I tell you, the only thing that should be repaired in the snow is a skidoo.

I feel your pain. It's like 20 degrees here in Michigan, no snow though, and I'm outside installing my new radiator and cold air intake.

Last year I did a coolant change in 15* weather in the college parking lot on my friend's car which happens to be a camry. Use Boiling or HOT water you have time and it won't freeze. But I also had premixed coolant as well. I just had on bottle that wasn't mixed. Good luck.

suck it up you pansy's. i live in sask, and i live with it. oil changes when its -25 celcius, walking back a couple miles home because the god damn snowmobile died again. you always have the option to move, it may not lead to a good future, but dont say it isnt there.

There are some advantages to working in the snow.
If you lift your car on jackstands, its easy to slide underneath it. Hardpacked icy snow is great for sliding underneath, sliding a transmission out, etc.
The glare of sunlight off snow really illuminates the underside of the car.
If you spill some gasoline on the snow its easy to clean up by throwing in a match.
No insects.

I feel your pain, MagicRat.
Ever swapped out a tranny in driveway with a snowbank as your only cover from the elements? Wait... it looks like you have... you know the drag coefficient of hard pack ;). I know a few of us have been fortunate enough to experience that.... It's real hard to find help to do something like that isn't it? Just take comfort in the knowledge that it's only a wheel bearing, and not an engine rebuild under the stars in a blizzard.
If I lived nearby I'd give you a hand... but I'm not... and I have a starter to swap out on my ride tomorrow. Yup, you guessed it. In the snow, on my back, in my driveway :)

That's pretty bad alright; worst thing I did was an engine swap in freezing rain. Wet, crusted with ice. Oh yeah.
