Hello forum. Have a mystery here, maybe someone can help. I have a 1996 blazer, 4 dr, and every so often, the car will short and instrument panel lights come on. I used to hear a thud come through the speakers when this would happen. I have had the alarm disconnected, and replaced stereo, now no thud, but stereo goes blank when this happens. The air bag, check engine, oil, and seat belt lights are what comes on. Sometimes this happens out of the blue, sometimes when I tap the brake, more often, when driving and I turn the headlights on. Theres got to be a bare wire hitting something as its not persistant. Every so often, it will shut the car off, or loose power. I have to either pump gas, or stop, shut off, and restart.
I just baught this car used, and had it at a local mechanic shop, and they havent been able to find it. :banghead:
Any help with this, suggestions, guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this could help but it is something to look into...The great gurus at GM ran a bundle of wires under the carpet right at your break/gas pedel..They are notorios to break down in that area because of all the pressure of your shoes and dampness from rain and melted snow...just remove thehte threshhold at your door (pulls up) pull the left panel behind the emergency brake (pulls out) and pull the carpet and padding back...inspect carefully..you might even want to check this when your instruments and accessories are on to see if bending the wires duplicate your problems

Also, wiggle the pink wire going to the ignition switch in the steering column and see if it causes it.

Ignition switches are prone to failure on the second gen blazers.

you grounded or have a short between your stereo and your return from the dash lights

What color would the return wire be?
I noticed if I hit the power windows buttons up, both at same time driver and passenger, that seems to trigger the short usually as well. Not 100%, but maybe 60% of time. There is a ton of wires just inside te door panel alone, all enclosed in casing. Is there a particular color Im looking for for the grounded wire? Is there one main ground or many? Im not much on wiring, and every shop Ive called for help says it could be like chasing a ghost and never find the real problem. Very frustrating. Even the local gmc dealership stated this, and even mentioned they recommened one customer to sell their car and get another without electrical problems.
