stp throttle body cleaner

Hi, what is a good method of cleaning thre throttle body? Just bought STP cleaner, it says to spray inside around plate with engine off and then just wipe off. I always used to spray inside with engine running while working the throttle. Could I cause any harm by doing this?

I never run the engine when cleaning the Throttle body. Why would you want all that varnish going through the engine?

you spay the TB butterfly with the cleaner and take a toothbrush and a rag and clean it thoroughly and wipe it clean with the rag.

Also, while doing this, you might as well remove the IAC valve and scrub and rinse it well too.

Also do this with the PCV valve.

Then reset the computer by pulling the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then startup the engine let it warm up and then put it in drive with the bake on and hold for 2 minutes so the engine can relearn the idle properly.
