ok i know how much everyone hates stupid ?'s like this but bare with me
How would a 89 rs do vs a 03 stang
both stock v8's
only thing mustang has as a ricer like coffee can on the back
I hate to run my mouth when i cant back it up. So i wanted everyones opinions b4 i go and run my mouth and dig myself into a grave.
I figured the stang might have a little more hp but might weigh a little more. Not saying that i am right just thats what i think.
At least its not as crazy as wanting to beat a Saleen. Its would also be one of those "I am better then you" races.
Its one of my really good female friends(jessica) bfs mustang.Since she started going out with him we hardly ever talk or see each other and I miss that.Its not that i want her as a gf its more that I miss her company and blonde-like ditziness. Shes more a ta/camaro girl then a pony girl. So i want to get the rs running and race his little stang and show him my car is better then your car. Shit if its gets her to start hanging out with me again thats a plus too. Until the rs is running though i can just bang my head against the century as i go an asphalt burning 35 mphs everywhere

just for reference, your RS if stock has a TBI 305 with 170hp. your car weighs in the neighborhood of 3500lbs. i know they feel alot faster than they are, and they eat imports, but your talking about another V8 ponycar, with conciderably more power, and better control over it. Id say to compete with it, youll need a set of lower gears, fullly preped tranny, perhaps the way mine is setup, and a blower or nitrous kit if you dont want to build the engine. as far as what to do to hop up the 305, send 92RS a pm, he is the 305 guru, and knows far better than just about anyone else on here what to do to make them competitive.

As for competeing wit the Stang your gonna have to start getting serious either in super-cost effective mods such as major stripping and huge gearing or serious HP increase as far as an engine rebuild, or power adder.

dude all the money your going to drop in that lo3 is better off spent on a new engine, it's not worth keeping the 305 if you want some serious hp, you could mod the lo3 to compete but them your going to run out of mods to do

get an lt1 dude, u can find an engine tranny combo for somewhere between 1000-2000 w/ decently low miles on it... then u will eat him for lunch, wait no, you'll turn his ass into a buffet line. plus u will have the pride of actually working on ur car, and not just putting a can on it...

My 305 couldn't eat anything when I got it. But then again it had like 145 K on it. I put a crate 350 in it with about an extra 4K into it and now I don't really have a problem with any car. not even the wrx =D . The 305 is just like some say a boat anchor . Get a 350 or even a 327 . then you'll be able to pull some serious ponies. The 305 is just a oversized version of the 2.8 XD , 350 with some heads , headers , cam , valve job , polish and blueprint it , msd ignition setup , msd distributor , weiand wide open intake , demon card ..tons of stuff you could do to eat a stang by spring if you do an engine swap.

Well hell, you could just pick up a 93 (not a great car reliablity wise) or 94 Z28 LT1 for around $4K. You could sell your car for a little bit, save up. And have a 13.80-14.00 car from the factory.
Not trying to be a dick, but that 305 most likely runs 15.90 to 16.30's right now. IF that.
You could go from 16's to 13's with a couple grand. Save yourself the trouble, time, and reliablity issues, and also save streetablity.
At least that's what i would do. And come to think about it, already did.

You can make some serious power out of a 305 but it's not as reliable as a 350.
With the 305 , you can throw a intake manifold , do some headers , cam it , carb / tbi unit upgrade and a thermomaster set up and you can get around 300 HP out of it. However your loose half or about half of it through the tranny unless you do a shift kit which will free up a little more to the wheels. Before I did a engine swap , I had the shift kit done like the 3rd day I had the car and I felt the difference my first time from a dead stop up to 100 mph. Now if you go with a engine swap , A stock 350 will whoop a 'stangs ass. I didn't have any real mods besides like silicone and lines and electric kits on mine before I started to go through the engine ( i had to use it as my daily driver so it couldn't be down for a weeks rebuild. ) nd I didn't lose to a single mustang. You can pick up a used 350 4 bolt block from a junkyard for a couple hundred , strip that bitch , go through it like a hurricane and unleash the monster. It will be cheaper if you do it that way and yourself instead of trying to beef up your 305 because they just really suck. I though about putting a 305 in a go-kart =D

yeah he got the tranny for it too just no time to work on it. we were thinking about permently(sp) borrowing a go kart for autozone and just using the cart from there

my 305 was decent. i had about 300 hp out of it, on my 83 z28. and thats WITH Cease-Fire Injection. it was all head work and cam and exhaust and etc. etc.

3. Newsflash, 300hp is NOT "serious power"...
4. If you lost HALF or ABOUT HALF of the power through your tranny, take that mofo back to the dump... :lol: 150rwhp out of a 300hp motor? Are you retarded... Most auto's only loose 15-20% and maybe as high as 25% IF you ran a TH400? Can you tell me why a TH400 eat smore power than a 700r4 or TH350? Probably not...
5. A shift kit does NOT "free up horsepower" to the wheels.. It simply helps the transmission shift harder and faster... There is no gain of RWHP by installing a shift kit... :lol:
6. I don't believe YOU have EVER done an engine swap...
7. A stock 350 engine out of a 87-92 fbody didn't have as much horsepower as an 03 gt stang... Stock for stock, the 03 GT Stang should and would take any 350 powered third gen fbody... Did you also know that back in the 70's, some of the vette 350's only had about 190hp? That wouldn't do shit against an 03 gt stang... come on...

I do believe he was referring to the hypercrap thermomaster prom, thermostat and fan switch...which will net you a Hp gain of 0.00 and may even lower your overall HP.
Below not aimed at red hot.
And forget putting in a used engine, you have no idea how the engine was treated.
Put in a NEW 350, or better yet a 383 (without vortec heads), corvette alum. heads (ported) and a converted LT1 intake. This will get you some good useable high RPM HP..
383 rotating assembly
L98 ported heads
10:1 comp ratio
LT1 intake setup
headers 1 3/4"
TFS stage 2 cam
422HP @ 5500 RPM
459 ft/lbs torque @ 4000 RPM
