Cam Question.

Okay....
I'm sure this question is here in the archives somewhere but I didn't see it.

I want to replace my cam shaft with a skunk2 and was wondering if there are any major problems associated with the switch.
Coming up soon it is time for a new clutch/ timing belt/ water pump so I was going to purchase the cam shaft and have it thrown in while it is there.

Is this a good idea or should I leave it alone?

I already have the header, cat, & cat back in place so I am hoping I will see a big difference.

Thanks!

well if it's a stage 1 cam, u should be ok w/ the stock valve train. however it'd be a real good idea to get an adjustable cam gear to go w/ the cam. that'll let u get the best result out of the cam. it would be a good idea to thro on an intake too, if u don't have one already (didn't mention). if u restrict the incoming air, there's no point in having no restriction going out.

dont forget about floating valves with an agressive cam. if its stage 3 then its really recommended to get springs and retainers. even if ur not revving it past the stock redline

just tell let u know the afore mentioned aftermarket 'upgrades' will not give u a significant increase in power I/H/E maybe aroiund 5-7hp new catback maybe around 1-3hp so u know ur not goin to be slammed in the back of ur seat with those. U might also want to look into a new flywheel if ur going to get a new clutch and maybe new pulley system. but thats just my opinion.

A Skunk 2 cam will give you hardly an increase in performance, especially on a non turbo d-series. You'll definitly feel it a little, but will still get stomped on by family sedans. Save the money for boost.
