Buick regal 1993 - no startup at all

Hi. i got a buick regal 93 last week, worked great for several days, then it suddenly wont start up. When i turn the key i get absolutely no noises, but "Check gages" and "Service engine soon" stay on.
I tried jump-starting it, according to its book but without any result.
So i have some theories:
-I'm suspecting the alternator since it is completely silent but i guess it could be a short anywhere...
-It could also be the battery, but the voltage is ok, around 11V
-It rained very hard in the past 24 hours and maybe because of that i got some short in the electronics
-And another strange one: yesterday evening i bought the battery for the remote (did not use it before cuz the old battery was empty). when i pressed the remote it only worked once, did the flashing and the chime. never worked again when pressing any button and today could not start the car. could this be related?
-it also has a small red blinking light near the steering wheel, i noticed it first this evening, but maybe that was on all the time and i didnt see it in day light.

After i last used the car, there were no lights on, as i said voltage is ok in the battery. I can use the radio, lights, horn, windows/doors, etc. I have a friend who has some diagnostic device, but i do not know where to find the plug to insert it - maybe someone could tell me then we read the error codes and i can look those up...

Any help is apreciated, especially since i'm not a car specialist, just an amateur electrician.
Thanks

Ok i fixed the problem this morning. Tried another jumpstart, with no results. Battery power around 10V. Disconnected the (+) from the battery, it had lots of white oxide stuff, cleaned it up and the car started up immediately.
It might have been the battery, though i think it's rather the reset of the car's computer that helped.
And I'll never use the remote again, as i suspect it's the most probable cause for this problem... i've read some topics on this forum about remotes that lead me to this conclusion - it might have caused some short somewhere but i dont want to play with the remote to test my theory.
Anyway it works now so its ok, i can drive to work.
