Girls and Skylines: Good reason to move?

S2CorollaR

I've noticed when people move from country to country, often it's because you want to be able to have a better life, take your kids to a better school, or you're running away from the mafia.

I've been thinking about moving out of the States for some time now, simply because of how expensive it is to live here and how superficial the women are. The thing is... Is this a good reason to move? I mean... I know it's kind of a superficial feeling itself, wanting to move because of girls, but it's also the car thing.

We don't live again and we don't live forever, so what we do, we only have one chance at doing. If that's true, and you, in your heart, want a Nissan Skyline GTR, why should you pay 16,000 dollars on top of the price of bringing the car here just to have it? Why should you suffer for a vehicle that some schmo in another country that makes the same money as you or less, can get for a much cheaper price? Skyline GTR's 1989>1994 go for less than 16,000 US dollars and in PRIME condition in Japan. If that's truly the car I want, then why isn't it a good reason?

There's also the girls. I went to Japan for a vacation a couple years ago, and you'd think I was a model or something. I had no trouble talking to girls, very nice, easy to get dates with. They look for different traits in a person as well. The people there are also much nicer. What I'm wondering is, is this a good reason to move? I mean, if I have a lot of money saved up and want to spend my life there, what's the problem? Should we stay in one place/country/region our entire life just because we were born there? Should we try to adjust our desires to be attainable in our current environment, or adjust our environment so it allows us to attain our goals?

I think it is a fine and dandy reason. I mean, if you were running from something your own stupidity (Not saying your stupid, example....) I'd say no, face your problems. but if it is just for leisure, go right ahead.

I am planning on moving after university, because of the cars, roads, and technology. Women are just an added bonus :D

I say, yes, it's a mighty fine reason to move. I am planning to move, live there, get a skyline, fully mod it, and then move back and bring my car here to canada after a couple of years. That way, I'll still have money from my house/apartment I sell in Japan, I already have a skyline, I can import it simply by shipping and registering, and I can nbuy a house for a little more:)

I got it worked out. you go and plan some more now.

Well, I think you should move because of those reasons. If life will be easier, go for it.

Thank you. I am a rare one:) I pay attention:p

But yeah. I am actually not 13...I am a horse....

Nope, not a horse....a broom!

Lol, j/k.

Anyway, yeah, have my life planned out. You'd think I am organised...but NOPE! Anyone thinking of moving anywhere, think about what you're giving up, and see if it's worth what you're gaining.

I've been thinking about moving out of the States for some time now, simply because of how expensive it is to live here...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Japan in NOT a cheap place to live! Renting a place is very expensive for small places, and if you try to buy a place, all I can say is ouch!

Plus, you have to pay the annual road tax. If you heavily mod your ride, it usually changes your registration class which is more expensive. Even painting your car a different color requires a new title which costs more, and is a pain in the ass to get the paperwork done.

On top of that, there is a safety/emissions inspection every 2 years. Where you also pay a weight tax. The inspection is more and more difficult to pass as the vehicle gets older. (They do this so that it is cheaper to buy new cars then keep old ones)

This doesn't even get into the other costs of living in Japan...

AvAlAnChE1090
12-11-2004, 11:38 AM
Yes, I was about to say that. Living in Jpana, is VERY expensive. I watched something on T.V. about it. You have to work your butt off to live in Japan.

S2CorollaR

It can't be more expensive than San Diego... San Diego is fucking ridiculous for expenses. It's BS too because I was born here yet can't afford to live here, what's up with that?

There is good pay, but the cost of living in Japan is still to high to be on your own, especially buy a house! Another thing about the translator job, you don't have to live in Japan to do that job. Many of the companies have realized this, and now pay people, in the US for example, US pay rates/which is much less then Japan, and save a lot of money.

Go to Japan and you'll see 3 to 5 generations of a family living in one small house. It's a VERY normal thing, because the cost of living is SO high that they do that to live within their means.

Also, Military bases in Japan have a certain # of local nationals they have to employ. They have Burger Kings on base, a minimum wage job. Americans employed there get US minimum wage, the local nationals start off at something like $15 an hour! (probably more now) But that's what they are required to be paid because of their cost of living.

i dont know what you are smoking, unless the japanese pay 4,300,000yen (40k USD) a year to translators, because the exchange rate sucks for JPY to USD.

also, if a skyline is what you really want, move to canada...its closer, they have decent pay, and you can get 3-2 GT-R's for decent prices.

GTES-t
12-12-2004, 03:49 AM
A person in Japan, they would have to pay MUCH more, because of the cost of living. Skilled translators in Japan have a high income (By skilled, I mean VERY skilled, not just someone who speaks both english and Japanese) Try living in Japan and have a wedding certificate translated. Ask any military person who married a Japanese person. The documents have to be officially translated, I think it cost my friend $1500. And that was back when the Yen was around 200 for every dollar.

And have you seen the exchange rate the last year? It's almost down to 1-to-1. It's 105 Yen to the dollar now. Also, you have to reallise that they do not use cents... For example, a coke in a US machine is say $1.00, it would be the same as seeing one there saying ¥100. (I think they cost ¥150 when I was there last)

Anyways, for example, Japan's average wage in 2003 was 4.53 million yen. And a translator living there will be making more then average!

nismo_power
12-12-2004, 05:25 AM
i didnt factor in living costs :D. i guess if its almost 1-1 now then it would save em money. and yea i knew they didnt have cents. 1 yen is like 1 cent. so its like saying 40 thousand dollars like 4 million yen.

I think New Zealand is the place to go if your going to go that rout I have been looking it that myself. I am going to be transfering to Stout in WI in a little while here for design. One can get a VERY highly paid job off the bat from there. I have a buddy who came from there and he got a starting paid job for 130 fucking Gs a year at 3M. The mother is into muscle cars so bad that he won't even consider the r33. He can sertainly afford it he lives alone in a house with his wife. His house payment is about 850 a month and that is not bad at all. Considering BOTH of them work. So my say on this is plan for a good job and you'll get that car you wan't alot easier. Just hury up and get that starting job. Try to get into a PSEO program when your in highschool and when you get out transfer to that (at leat) 4 year college you want. 2 years there get the hell out get the job and there you go.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there's a very important consideration that hasn't been taken into account: it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get a visa to live there permanently. The Japanese are very strict about controlling immigrants into the country. Hell, it's ridicuously hard to get a visa just to work there.

I sympathise though. I just got back from Tokyo, and yeah it's expensive, but it's worth the money and more for the quality of life there. A better bargain than most parts of California I've been to, that's for sure.

So find you a cute Japanese honey, get hitched, and get a green card.

you can get her a green card to come back to the states but as far as you getting married and trying to stay in japan...... my wife being japanese doesn't help me whatsoever. It is pretty damn hard for an American to stay in japan without being SOFA (status of forces agreement: Military). You certainly arent going to buy any property (even if you COULD afford it) and you will have an equally harder time even trying to rent an apartment. I'm guessing the best ways to slide in would be to either visit a lot, join the military or go to school. I think the school thing would be the best way to go.

But does a small package of grapes cost 14 dollars at stop and shop? I don't think so.

On the other hand.... here's our house (before we moved in) it costs 145000 yen per month. so that's about 1450 dollars. Just to use as a reference. But I'm in Okinawa and our house is kind of out in the woods. If you wanted something like this in Tokyo it would be fucking unreal

You even thinking about drifting in that area proves to me that you're young(cause smart people don't drift in that area). Then you trying to correct my Japanese..........ha ha ha ha........you probably only know a few words...just like half the other jackasses that "think" they speak Japanese. Udasai.......basically translates to "TOO LOUD".....By telling someone they are too loud is basically telling them to Shut up. Now the great thing about Japanese is that I could put those words in different order and a Nihon-jin(Japanese Person) would totally get my point. And learn to not revive dead posts.......I see in my CP that there are like 7 of my threads from a while ago with new posts. These are old.......leave them dead. :banghead:

you're funny. did you mean urusai? udasai doesnt mean anything. i was born in japan dude... been here more than half my life. you dont need to test my japanese or try and tell me what something means.
thinking about drifting makes me young? ok... that makes as much sense as a turd in a punch bowl... nothing is illegal about drifting, how would that make me lose my liscense? drifting on public roads... now that is illegal. if you had been here as long as me you would know the area better... there are three drift tracks less than an hour away from the front gate. i cant even count how many tracks are within a few hours from here...
