Mostly your beat...

You can do a ls
you can do a vtec
getting a ls/vtec is very hard (pay someone)

Cali is a pain...
If you do all the stuff for the vtec you can get it to pass.
But it must be obd1 (or 2) conversion with all the proper plugs and such.

Ls is easer if it is non-obd1 90-93

No matter what you will have to take it to a ref and get a bar sticker.

Sometimes if you just do a SOCH vtec, which is what I am doing some shops will not care and stick the pipe in and try to pass it.
My z6 doesnt have vtec anywhere and I am hoping the they dont notice. I think that he ref cost $150 or something.

If you want DOHC vtec you are stuck trying to get a real GSR motor or learn to swap motors fast every two years...

yup 1 of da dudes in my crew goes form bout 210hp LSVTEC to an 70hp d15 every 2 years. Time consuming? yes. Worth it? yes. About a good week (including swap and smog) as opposed to 730 (take away a week) with a killer LSVTEC. DON'T GO SOHC! (if u can)
