I have a 95 325i and recently i hear a ticking or knocking noise coming from the engine, only between 2700 and 3000 rpms and only when accelerating up a hill. the noise is fairly loud and sounds like the noise my old trooper once made. the push rod broke in the engine after a while and luckily the dealer replaced the whole engine under warrenty, but i dont have a warrenty on my car so i want to get this taken care of. oh and my car has almost 90,000 mi on it. the noise is louder when the engine is cold. please let me know what this is and how to fix it if anyone knows. thanks!

i also have a 1995 325i at 60k miles with the same problem, i brought my car over to mechanic, i'm new with bimmers so i wasn't exactly sure what he was saying that the problem was but i had to replace a couple of parts in my engine and well.....it came to a total of $1300.....not too good i can assume, i would get that checked out soon if i were you.

thanks, im going to do that soon. does anyone know exactly what causes this problem and what needs replaced? I am into fixing my own car and I would just like to check it out and see exactly how difficult it would be. please let me know! thanks

Your first step should be to check your oil level. If you have nothing in then then that can cause the noise. ANd check it, dont assume that you got your oil changed XXXXX miles ago that its still fine, there might be a leak.

ya that was the first thing i did because when my trooper had that noise it was leaking oil like crazy. but the oil level is fine. i put in some fuel additive, im hoping that does it but if anyone else has any suggestions please let me know. thanks

I think it is just the gas you are using, try a different gas station and 93 oct...
