350z base or Enthusiast model-stupid????

It appears that many on this board are ordering the Performance model or better.

I am in a financial crunch but am dreaming about the new Z, I was thinking of ordering one of the 2 lower end models. Since the motor, tranny, and those type of things are the same, perhaps this would be a good option. My family owns a nissan dealer (that does NOT mean I have a lot of $ or see any of it, BUT it lets me get cars at "wholesale" so that will be nice), so that should help to get the price down a couple/few thousand (which I will put into wheels and tires). Since my dad doesn't go to the nissan dealership on a regular basis, can someone help explain the "pre-ordering" process (I may not have to worry about it), and does anyone know if there will be any special lease programs from nissan???

sorry if these issues have already been brought up, thanks for your help

btw, this is my 1st post (wahoo!!)

Your family owns a Nissan dealership? I know you said that doesn't mean $$, but I still think you should buy a McClaren F1 instead. Owning a dealership must mean some $$.:D
Anyways, what kinda prices are wholesale prices? How much lower than MSRP's? Give me an estimate.
Yeah, the base has the same major components, but it lacks a few good features such as Traction Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, HID lights, tire pressure monitor, and more. Performance is a step-up, but it still lacks Vehicle Dynamic Control, which stabilizes the car at high speeds and in cornering and such, and few other features also. But if money is a problem, the base is one of the greatest bargains out there.
Personally, I ordered a Touring 6-sp, which has all the "comfort" features such as power, heated leather seats, Bose system and such. But because I also ordered the side airbags, aero package, and DVD, the total comes to $41K after tax--pretty pricey!!! But I guess I'll get what I pay for.
To order one, just see a salesman. Salesmen should've been trained by now to place a Z order. I don't know much about financing or leasing, but see one of "your" leasing employees for that. Wow! I can't believe your family owns a Nissan dealership and you don't know how to go about ordering a Nissan car. Maybe u should give it to me instead, and let me take care of that dealership for ya.:D

pw, I am not familiar with ordering b/c the main dealership that my family owns is Honda/Acura. When the s2000 came out there was a lot of hype, but they didn't do any "factory ordering", but some dealers did take orders on their own (a totally different situation) the closest I have come to ordering is I almost ordered a Jetta for my wife, but after looking hard enough we found one we wanted and did a dealer trade.

as for pricing, go to kbb.com, it has dealer cost and wholesale, they are correct to the penny (you might be surprised at how little the mark up is) I would figure out what a comprably equipt nissan retails for and figure out the margin (%) and you could probably get a very good idea what your car costs the dealer (I would guess 8-12 % margin), when I was getting my wifes car I used it instead of calling our sales manager everytime I have a ? about the different pricing for different options.

Looks like I will call the sales manager tomarrow (he is also our VW sales manager so I have worked with him before). The reason I don't know that much about nissans process is b/c my family has only been involved for the past few years and the corporate offices aren't even at that location, where as they have had Honda forever, and that is where all the "partners" work.

Zcarfan, how old are ya? U must be a young teenager, huh? Lucky spoiled brat. :D If my parents had owned a few dealerships like those, I'd be screaming: "Mommy, I want the McClaren F1 from Ralph Lauren, nothing less." :D Yeah, the Polo guy owns one.

pw, I am not sure what that up-rising was all about. Lets put it this way, I don't SEE any $$$ from the dealerships (so you mean to tell me that your mommy and daddy still support you???, mine don't, at least not while they are still alive, which will be a long time, they are still fairly young). Nothing better than going to a car forum (to talk about cars) and get personal attacks from someone you don't even know, thats cool.

Dude, chill out! I wasn't attacking ya. First of all, my parents don't support me. I'm a college graduate, so I'm supporting myself. All I was saying was that IF my parents had dealerships, hell yeah they'd be supporting me, and I'd make 'em buy me a $1.3 million-dollar car. :D Chill out, dude! I'm not attacking.

I am considering the base model or the enthusiast model. I'm willing to shell out $2k for the enthusiast model compared to the base. Are these features worth it? such as limited slip diff, HID, and traction control? or should I stay with the base model?

Thanks

HID is definitely worth it.

Limited slip diff helps you get out of a corner quciker.
