how do u set the timing

I'm working on a 1992 ford explorer for this nice old lady.
It wont start so I replaced the umm...the thing where u put the spark plug wires on.its a square black rectangle box."ignition thingy"...still didnt start...so i replaced the fuel regulator...cause u could smell gas bad......Thennn i took the number 1 sparkplug wire off to see if i was getting a spark and the spark is a yellow orange looking spark....i'm thinking if i geta nice blue spark...ita start....anyone know how to set the timing on this thing??..even though it isnt mine...i'm still courious.theres no distributor to turn to adjust the timing.....Thanks...Ken...Its a (1992 explorer 4.0)

The "ignition thingy" is the EDIS module (Electronic Distributorless Ignition System), and you can't adjust the timing since it is controlled by the EEC-IV computer.
