Cold Air Intake

alright i have a very important question...what is the advantage of a cold air intake for an audi...from what i know the idea is that the cold the air the engine takes in the more air it can take in and then the great the amount of power it can produce...i understand that...but my question is why would i want to buy the setups they have for audis...i drive a 96 A4 2.8L...the air box has a breather tube connected to it that is fed directly from the air coming through the grill...i hope whoever is going to answer this question understands and knows how the system is setup...to me i dont know how you can get the air any colder than that...unless you have an intercooler but we dont need to talk about that...my question is why would i want to change the setup if it alright brings in the colder air from the outside opposed to a cone filter that sucks in the air thats under the hood being warmed by the engine...it just doesnt make sense to me

really....you dont, its been proven over and over that the audi air box is a great design... I think people get em just for the sound, really... just drop a k&n or itg panel filter in the box and your'e good to go...

I would think that there is also more surface area from somthing like a cone filter to breath than a stock box air filter.

thanks marked 001...i was thinking about that for a while when i changed my air filter...i mean the air is tunneled into the air box and through the filter...it just seems so stupid to buy something that is supposed to cool the air but not anymore cold than the stock air box...but i suppose theyre selling it cause someone wants it

Normaly stock is best with K&N in it but I have found that there is some better options like the one fitted to my car. I have noted gains in both power and noise and found it to be better than stock.

But look at the test and judge for your self.

I am no expert, but what I think is going on is that you get more air into your engine with the intake, its just not a cool. This will probably give you a moderate increase in horsepower, but it will also make your engine burn a little hotter, makeing the life on your audi go down ever so slightly.

the whole idea for the cold air intake is to get more air into your engine...youre right...the method it uses is taking more air and jamming into the cyclinder so there is a larger combustion...how does it do that? by using colder air...heres the science...colder air is more dense than warmer air...meaning colder air has more particles (namely oxygen) in the same amount of space as warmer air...so the idea is to get the coldest air into the same area...thats what an intercooler does...i would be completely on board with a CAI for my car if they could prove sucking in the air around the hot engine was colder than funneling in the air from outside the engine bay...thats what my question is

all it does it trick the maf into thinking that there is more air coming in so it compensates with more fuel how ever becuse all it does is tick the maf you can buy a wire that actually electonically tricks the maf into thinking that it is getting alot more air that you can ever get on a air filter it is on ebay and the science of it should sould like it would work

I have a 00 A4 1.8tqm. I put a LLTek cold air intake on my car. It comes with an extra heat shield which attaches to the stock one. its works great to stop the heat from engine, which is the intakes worst enemie. Also it used the stock plastic cover that goes over the top of the cone intake. Making the cone totally hidden when all said and done. The stock intake tubes all dump into the sealed setup. www.lltek.com great intake...!! great sound.!!
