we kindof just went through all of this. im opinion: manual for road racing, auto for straight line.
i feel your pain though. one time i had a chick tell me that only girls drive automatics. once i was sure that my balls were throughly detached from my body, i went home to eat m&ms and watch friends...

well manuals do take more skill.....(refering to how only girls drive autos)

They are different. I would have chosen a manual myself. But I bought my 2nd gen with an auto. I took what I had and made the best out of it. Now with my car I am glad I have an automatic. My car shifts so hard into 2nd gear that it makes even those manual guys jealous. I am sure that it would be hard to get a manual to keep up with my automatic. Straight line of course! You just have to work those automatics over a bit from factory.

I love my m6, it's the most fun I have ever had, with a car that is. So I vote m6 for fun and mpg, I get 27 mpg with mine.

arrrggg not this again, lets just leave it to this its everyones personal opinon, there are no right or wrong, ive seen people who can shift so well you would think that they were driving an auto, then i have seen people who cant drive a manual worth crap you'd think it takes 20 seconds between gears. Its all about whos better at what.

I just sold my 6 speed. put a 2800-3200 stall converter on a auto and the doors will be blown on their cars!

Dont get me wrong. I loved my 6 speed too. Drop it down a gear or so, everyone looks! You will win more races with a auto and 3200 stall.

i don't like autos because its just too easy....not much skill involved , hit the gas and go....when i win a race i like to have the satisfaction of me being a big part of winning along with my engine....but its all a matter of what you like to drive.... they both have their pros and cons

Well like I said they are both cool. I like my auto cause I built it up, I DID. Everything that I am able to do I have done myself. Plus I want my car to be a straight line car so auto is very consistant and fast. I would love to buy a stick someday. If I were to purchase a new Camaro there is only one option and that is the 6 speed!

manual auto it is all good.
My car wasnt made with a manual at all in 83. I believe both take skill. Someone who is used to an automatic cant just get into a car with a manual and be as skilled as hew was with the auto. and vise versa.
All this talk about girls driving automatics. The that to the top fuel dragster drivers. Most people wish they could go that fast. I would love to see people shift while doing the 1/4 in like 4 seconds.
From my experience in driving autos and manuals I can do all most the same things with both.
I have better things to do with my time than to knock another camaro driver because he doesnt prefer the same as me.
Everyone get over it and continue to kick ass in your camaros. Manual or auto.

THE deciding factor for me would have to be traffic. you sit on the interstate in traffic in a man and then in an auto and tell me which you prefer. i love manuals, drive one every day, but when i get in that auto on the weekends its like going from a tricycle to a bmw...

As for how girls drive... bring it to TN and we'll see who out drives who. :)
I drive an auto b/c of the heavy @ss traffic I have to drive in every single day with a bad knee. But I can drive a manual just as well as the next Z28 owner...

Top fuels dont have trannies they have direct drive with a massive clutch!!! I just thought I would let you know. However, Prostocks do have a tranny.

Top Fuel dragsters and Funny cars only have one gear. A computer/timer controlled hydrualicly actuated, multi-plate clutch slowly engages as the car goes down the strip with full lock-up about half way down the track. It slips for the first few seconds to limit the power to the wheels (and therefore limiting wheel spin.)
I guess you could say it's automatic, but it's certainly nothing like the hydrualic torque converter in a conventional automatic.
Pro stock cars have a five speed manual. The clutch is used at launch, but during the run the transmission is shifted without the clutch. By using an iginition interrupt they can briefly cut power from the engine. With the transmission unloaded, the next gear can be engaged and the ignition restored.
I'll admit I was halfway wrong.
Obviously top fuels need something to get an awesome launch. But my point is that they are not shifting all the way down the track.
It could go either way. I will give it to core for knowing his stuff. But befoer u try to make someone else look dumb. Know all of the facts.
I would also like to say that u made me a little mad hence the too bad comment earlier.
I would like to take that immature comment back if allowed to.
I will say this only one more time.

That and the five speed manuals used in pro stock cars are not shifted by an ing. inturept. They are a constant mesh transmission with staight cut gears.( IE liberty and Linco transmissions) They are locked to a shaft by hydluacly (sp) operated clutch disks, instad of collars and teeth.
Think about it. If you were to cut power from the engine, you would still have the load from the driveline being rotated. Infact try it for youself. Next time you guys with sticks are out playin around. bring you car up to speed, turn off the key, (then turn it on to keep the steering wheel from being locked.) and then try to shift without using the clutch... because of the collar and teeth, you grind.
