well, i just got my new car i bought from my friend. it was his project car that he sold to me for 6000. The insurance money i got from my civic ex covered all of the 6000 so i didnt lose anything. im quite happy the 2.0 dohc sure beats the hell out of the ex's 1.6 sohc vtec. i have been trying to learn the terminology of dsm's but im still a noob. I was hearing things about the weaknesses of the RS's neon motor, but mine is pretty strong. My situation is that i want to turbo this car, but before you start telling me i should of just bought a gst or gsx, this is what the car has done to it:
Engine:
.040 bored over
SE forged pistons
eagle rods
Rebuilt head with titaniums springs, retainers.
Crower cams. i forgot the duration/lift
obx header
obx catback
AEM cam gears
Drivetrain:
LSD
Clutchmaster Clutch
lightened flywheel
Rebuilt tranny with closer gear ratio
Other Stuff:
150 shot nos wet kit w/ dual purge
Short shifter, b&m replica off ebay
what is the best advice you can give me before i start investing in a turbo kit. BTW im also saving for a msd ignition to retard the timing, and i need to get some colder plugs for my nitrous. Comments, dont be shy.

looks like a sweet setup. are you planning to go turbo and get rid of the nitrous or do you want to be able to use both? if you know cars you should be able to piece together a turbo kit with used parts for 1500-1800. when you get your msd ignition you should also look at getting a fuel pressure regualtor to rAise the fuel pressure as the boost goes up. or you can use a pressure regulator from a turbo car.

you're going to have to upgrade your engine mounts and suspension or else you're going to wheelhop like hell.

well i would definitely want to keep the nitrous, i wouldnt use it as much but having nitrous at my disposal would be something i would not want to give up, unless i needed funds to pay for the turbo.
i have not looked into getting a fuel pressure regulator though. I dont think ill be running to high of boost, but thats what i say now. i dont know a shitload about cars but i work at an autoshop as a helper so i have guys that are willing to help me along the way.

i do need motor mounts. And for suspension, as of now its bone stock. I was going to get some eibach springs, but i think further down in horsepower the road i might need full suspension. I'll be looking in the direction of tein.

you need a fuel pressure regulator to be able to run any boost. if you're keeping nitrous i would recomend a slightly bigger turbo then usual maybe a t3/t4 which isnt usually considered "streetable" but with nitrous you can hit the n2o when your starting, to spool it up faster and it will give you better top end

sounds like a nice set up. first thing id do is get rid of the obx stuff.. three letter compnais tend not to be very great(obx, apc, etc.)
although msd and aem are good

can the 420 a handle that turbo? Also how long does it take to spool up?

a 420a thats that buuilt should be able to take it. besides the turbo doesnt matter what causes problems is running too much boost. im not sure how fast that turbo spools and any numbers i knew would be wrong anyway since his engine is bored out .040. i know it is usually considered a pretty laggy turbo

i too was thinking about getting a hybrid turbo. But i think im going to get most of the parts that came stock on the GST's, TSI, etc to save money. Whatever turbo that can do the job of getting me into the mid 13s with my motor, and low 12's or 11's with nitrous. What i am ultimately looking for is a solid daily driver that can put down at the track in the springtime.
im looking at all the parts that are neccesary for a turbo now, since i made up my mind that i am going to turbo this motor instead of getting a 2gen gst. Im making a budget of 1500 and not going to go over. Im going to try and get most of the stuff used, and only get nessessary stuff new.
btw, the only obx stuff i have is in the exhuast. The obx muffler is like any other muffler, loud and obnoxious, it does the job. The header has a leak but that was because the last owner tried to make a makeshift o2 plug and welded it on there and it kinda leaks outta the weld. I know obx has a real bad reputation but i heard they are manufacturing better products so i wouldnt make any assumptions unless i actually hear of a story. But hands down, b&m shifters own obx.
