UnderDrive Pullys

Well I am about done with my z6 and I have a odd question...

Will the Crank pully on my d15b2 work on my new z6.
I think that it will fit but I am worried about balance issues.
I dont want to get a new Alternator and I dont have AC or PS

Is the factory pully a harmonic balancer too?

I have seen some Underdrive pullys that are alloy
They calim that they increase the Hp due to lightweight...

Anyone use them?

hondas r so well internally balanced, that they don't really need the harmonic balancer. it'll be fine w/ a light weight pulley. unorthodox has yet to hear a complaint about their pulley, so that might be a good one to go w/. DON'T GET AN OBX ONE!!!!

as for if the d15 will fit the d16, i dunno. i'm willing to bet as long as it fit snug over the crank snout, then it'd be fine

I have a OBX Stainless Steel catback DTM and kinda like it.
But most of the rest of their stuff I didnt like
Of course the DTM cost me $150 new, shipped...

Anyone actually use one?
What do they really do to your car?
Seems like it would be a good way to get 5lbs off the crank.

I wouldnt' do it because I had a mini me swap and they said if I was to use my z6 pulley on my 1.5L motor that it'll run fine for like 8-10,000 miles then fuck the crank all up.

Supposedly there are balancing issues.

X are you talking about the Timingbelt pully
Or the accessory pully?

With a mini-me swap why would you want to change the accessory pully to the z6?

Did you want to change the alternator to the 92-95

I use the Unorthodox Crank and alternator pulleys. They work great together. The only thing I wonder about is how fast the alternator charges the battery. The car had charging issues when I first bought it but since I used both pulleys together with the correct belt and a good alternator. I even had the engine replaced but still use the Unorthodox pulleys. I also have a lighter flywheel now so I've lightened up both sides of the engine sorta evenly. I don't know how much hp the car has but I'm pretty sure it's more than 108...

Ok anyone else use these things?

I was thinking about lighting the flywheel too...

Actually,
a good mechanic told me about them lightweight pulleys when I asked him about it,he said it would maybe! start a rod knockin',
throwin' the crankshaft off balance,
it suprised me to read that you said dont worry about that balancing bs,
a true racer balances from crank shafts to springs,areodynamics ext...
you just cant expect to put anything performance on your motor & think its going to run better & faster,while definitly not thinking twice about balancing,he said if I wanted to lighten the pulley,make shore I get the lightweight flywheel & some other things.....(I cant remember)

i've read up on the issue. as far as i have found, no honda has had a problem after adding a lightened crank pulley or flywheel. at least no problems that were at all related to those mods. honda does a great job at making shit that lasts. they have the crank internally balanced very well w/ the rods&pistons. the crank weights r balanced after assembly of that particular engines crank, roda, and pistons. if u want one example go here: http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/faq_pulleys.html

dont get underdrive pulleys because it takes away the harmonic balancer which absorbs the vibrations from the crank.

your mechanic was wrong, its not rod knock, it may cause the main bearings to spin. i know some guy that has a turbo car, put one of those underdrive pulleys on his car, spun all his main bearings. which is why aem doesnt make a crank pulley only alt and ps pulleys.

The spun bearings is do more to issues with the motor or the driving as to the pullys.
