unbreakable?

If your a fan of infomercials, or just an insomniac, you've probably seen the "Unbreakable Auto Lock". Stop giggling please.
My car was just stolen, and stripped and now I have it back as a bone stock beast. I am gonna modify again but am a little p-noid about it getting jacked again.
I saw the auto lock on TV, and it seems like it makes sense as an added layer of security. Then again so did the Club for years, until I saw a steering wheel sawed through in like 30 secs.
Anyway, anyone with some opinions on this $60 piece. Anyone know any flaws I haven't thought of? Anyone out there have it? Is it snake oil or what. Thanks in advance.

the autolock would help but wouldn't stop it completely. if they can't get your car, they'll tow it away. but as far as the autolock, i think its the best device out there is right now

do you have one of these autolocks? If so, is it as solid as it seems, and is it a PITA to put on and take off everytime you use the car?

They ARE a PITA to get on and off but then again that would be the point wouldn't it? I have one and even with the KEY it is a bitch! Imagine what a thief would have to go through!

I think its cute they show the gun test... and how you can fire a bullet at it and it will still hold its own. Next time you see it, watch closely... they are firing at THE EDGE of the autolock facing them... sorta like...
bullet flight path ------> <>
With it turned, and the bullet hitting the very edge it will cause minimal damage ~ hell you could probably pull the test off with a hardened piece of ceramic!!!! But the point is, who wouldnt notice someone SHOOTING inside your car, plus if it does deflect theres about no where for the bullet to go except bounce around inside the car... frankly if I was a theif I wouldnt feel to sure of myself sitting inside a car as a bullet bounces around me...
But you said your car was stripped, an autolock isnt going to do DICK to prevent someone from stripping your car. Hell any idiot with two pieces of thin metal can take out about 99.99% of all aftermarket headunits from someones car in less then the time it takes for you to look at your vibrating alarm pager...
Im not saying alarms are stupid, because hell im ordering mine shortly... but you need to understand how an alarm works, how a theifs mind works ~ and you can do several things to protect yourself and your goods! I will be writing up a very informative piece in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for it!

i have an autolock too and they are a bish to get off with the key too, but like sparq said, any monkey can steal your whole shit and leave you a brake pedel and an autolock with out anything else there.
plus another downside of the autolock is that older cars can still be drivin with the thing on, by using the ebrake to stop, or just flatbed it.
nothing will ever fully stop car theivery(is that a word?) or stolen rides.

I'm getting my alarm in a week or so too. I had one on my ride but they still got it, but hey the insurance is paying for it so whatever. I'll probably get the autolock too. I mean $60 bucks is a small price for whatever security you can get. They can't start the car without the clutch, but if they want my car that bad they're gonna get it regardless. Maybe they'll use a blowtorch and the jaws of life.
Thanks for the input, and if it gets stolen again, look for me on the RSX forums. :silly2:
BTW sparq, I'll be checking for that post.

Damn dude, thanks for the info, but I gotta say that sucks. Even if they start the car, will they be able to get into reverse or drive without the clutch? I know you can shift, but wouldn't the car stall without the clutch being depressed first?
Sparq, what do you use for security? You park a pit bull on your front seat or something? :D
Would you suggest a kill switch? I just saw this thing that has a small microprocessor that is linked I think to the fuel line, starter etc. It supposedly is impossible to start the car without the chip, which you carry on your keyring. I don't know cost, but its probably expensive.

Did The Club show the theif cutting the wheel and sliding it off? HELL NO, if they did no one would buy it! For an automatic, this device is literally crap... for a manual, its slightly more involved but again can be defeated. 3 words... 5 pound hammer...
They always show the device trying to be removed UP/DOWN... but anyone who pays attention in their science class can tell you about force and angle of attack and crapola like that... take your good heavy hammer, and hit the TOP of the device SIDEWAYS and there goes your precious Autolock! :(
But you started catching onto the good stuff... starter kills and fuel cut offs. If you dont want your car STOLEN this will be some of the best protection ~ and is it really so costly? I mean you spend $60 on an autolock and $40 for the club and $500 on an alarm system... all of which could be defeated in less then a minute ~ so if you spend say $450 for a basic alarm w/ fuel cut off and starter kill/interrupt is it really that much to pay?

the best device are those starter/fuel kills they offer the best amount of portection for their price, sparq got it right again, you can easily remove these autolock devices with any heavy hammerish object.
plus 99% of manuals can be bump shifted into first with a rolling start or just use the screwdriver to the solenoid trick and voila, the car is running, plus you can always just grind the stick into the other gears, the car jacker is only interested in the parts so if he ruins your clutch he couldnt care less.

STARTER KILLS AND FUEL CUT OFFS ARE YOUR BEST PROTECTION AGAINST HAVING YOUR CAR STOLEN!
All these silly little "side ideas" do nothing but ubstruct the true goal and thus you are leaving yourself vounerable for attack... while your out tinkering trying to figure out a "secret" way to activate your ebrake instead of spending the money on REAL protection... someone just comes along and swoops up your car. Trust me, anyone thats going to actually STEAL your car typicually knows alot more then you would think they know ~ its THEIR JOB to steal your car, and they get to practice all the time... do you really think some stupid alarm that has an audible alarm and blinks your emergency lights is going to slow them down?

I knew this guy who had an 87 Monte Carlo SS......his car was stolen about 3 times.....and each time it was recovered intact.....so eventually he got pissed and he chained the rear posi to a metal post that was cemented into the ground. One morning he woke up to the find the car seperated from the rear-end........stupid story but i thought it was funny.

I can guarentee you 100 % sure that a thief can not saw THE CLUB in half withen 30 seconds .....
The tv special you saw they used a special saw blade and had a professional lumber jack cutting a heated club that was soft.......
Now think about it a normal thief probably doesn't spend much time working on sawing ......... Plus if he saw he had to carry a saw plus break the window cause of an alarm I think he would be turned off unless he has been planning it for a while!
I live in a place where cars get jacked everyday literally wheels get stripped straight off the car ...... and all these people have alarms!
One day my car got jacked but thanks to THE CLUB my car was still there!
THE CLUB is the best thing there is nothing else besides alarms and putting a dog in your car that compares to it!
NOT THE FOOT CLUB
NOT ANYTHING BELIEVE ME...............

after using the autolock it does seem to move around alot and kinda slopy but it stays on I put it on my break pedle since my clutch switch is taken off so you can start it up with out the clutch "remote starter"
if some one wanted to take the car they would just have to spend some time and remove the pedle or cut the pedel I know from cutting lucks off old dirtbikes the big wheel locks with a smaller dia by far then the auto lock and it still took forever to cut "bikes I bought and the old owner lost the keys" its really a pain to get to as far as cuting if anyone heres worked under the kickpanel you will know how much of a pain it is to lay on your back with the nice hump of the door jam
if I had the autolock out and in a vice I think it would take me 20-30 mins to cut thu it Im guess 10-20 mins with a torch its really not as easy as people think
now I did find that since it moves around easy you could twist it sideways and drive it off like that but you would have something laying across every pedel making it a real fun car to drive hit the break and the clutch and gas go with it
and yes its not hard at all to drive with out a clutch give it gas and FORCE the shifter into first it will go wont be pretty but it works "who cares about the trans its a free car anyways"
I paid 39.99 at autozone for it and I think for 40 bucks if it makes the guy taking the car spend 1 more min trying to take it I think its worth it

My family owns a junk yard lol and im a fast sawer ....
Ive tryed sawing the club i get tired half way unless you buy some special saw made for cutting metal then i tryed cutting the steering well not as hard as the club but ....
it does have steel core inside the plastic that took about 3 to 4 minutes!
So i can understand still though its hard! IF you park infront of your house there will be some noise or something going on ..... better chances then nothing!

everything blows get an alarm like clifford get it installed properly get the best one and remove all the locks get a smoke screen and get the toad eye and 2 satelite tracking devices - i know a guy who used to jack cars and the first thing they'd do is look for the tracking device.

Not everybody is willing to spend all their money into a "sophisticated" alarm system.
For the last time people...
If a thief WANTS to get into your car (or the whole car itself), THEY WILL!
All you can do is slow... them... down... and get your sh*t insured so that when they take your sh*t, you actually have something to work with as opposed to nothing.
masperez: Thiefs aren't stupid enough to actually waste time to cut the Club. They cut the steering wheel... This has been demonstrated many times.

Ok Ok the best solution stay in your car 24 / 7 buy a house park it in your garage and sleep in it !
With a ak 47 !
Or go to africa and buy those blow torch alarms that shoot flames and when the theif gets caught eat his ass for lunch!

Also, its not that the Autolock moves around and is "sloppy" -- its the fact that they do not tell consumers of its weaknesses so they might have some other alternative items like alarms and starter kills or things of that nature -- instead they insist that this $60 is the best thing you can buy and you need nothing more and its not true. If you dont believe me go attack it with a 5lb hammer - hit it near the top of the device and that will usually cause just enough movement so that you may now engage the clutch or break pedal and your car is now gone.
