intermittent beeps

hello all,

I have owned my 2000 LS V8 sport for a year now. Absolutely love it.
One quirk though, every so often at random intervals i hear a beep with no coorepsonding light flashes or messages, just a beep. The reason i bring this up is that i havent heard this beep, aside from status messages, for about 3 months until last night when i heard it twice.

Also it's just one beep, not a series of beeps.

Any ideas?

i searched for beeps and chimes with no found posts that seemed relevant.

Thanks

I get these beeps too. I haven't been able to figure it out, I haven't had one happen in a while, I am thinking maybe it is when one of the trip odometers flips back to 0 when it has reached it's highest nubmer possible...I rarely use the trip odometers...do you use yours? If not maybe that's what's going on...I've been letting mine grow and next time I hear the beep will check them both to see if they are at 0 or not to verify.

It's a brief communications error on the PCM data buss. Every pre-'03 LS does this. Some more often than others. I get it about once a month. If you're eagle-eyed, you can catch the gear indicator flash an "E" when it beeps, but the errors last for such a short amount of time that no codes are set and no effects are felt. It's lovingly called "the mystery beep" by enthusiasts and is nothing to worry about.

Hello, I have this problem also. One thing to watch out for is if the beeping interval becomes more shorter and increases in number it could be your alternator is going bad. An internal sensor monitors the voltage output and if it drops briefly you will get a beep without a message. I had to attach a scope meter to my system to capture the problem myself because it never regestered an alert code.

I found my beep to be the trunk sensor. It thought it was ajar. It happened so fast that it usually wouldn't display anything, but I was lucky enough to catch it one time.

I caught mine a few times now and it tells me to check rear left light...I haven't bothered replacing it yet cause the bulb isn't burnt out...

I have actually been able to make the beep repeat regularly. Mine happens when I come to a stop, lights on by the auto lights setting (not manually turned on...and it doesn't happen if the headlights aren't on), wipers on low speed (not auto or high), and my left turn signal on...as soon as I get to a full stop I get the beep and it tells me to check my rear left light...I have checked it and it is fine...but I'm going to replace it this week and see if it stops the beep.

:naughty: Almost as fun narrowing down this car's issues as is it getting them fixed! :naughty:
