'97 Stereo Installation Question

I was wondering if someone could tell me if you have to unscrew anything before removing the first piece of the console? I know that you have to start with the piece closest to the armrest that goes over the emergency brake, but I can't tell if anything needs to be unscrewed before popping that piece out. Thank you!

First: Pull the handbrake up, then just take off that piece. It will not completely come of because there are wires attached. Next, put the shifter in L and unscrew the 4WD knob, then take the next peice out(completley). There are 4 screws where the AC/HEAT/adjustment thing is. Thanks for answering- I had looked online, but couldn't find anything for free. Forgive my ignorance- what is "L"? (Put the shifter in L)? I started to pull that first piece off last night but couldn't get enough leverage to pop it out. Glad I didn't push it too much because I didn't have the brake up! Thanks again for your help!

"L" is low gear. Some manufactures use "D,2,1" others use "D,L" or "D,2,L". In other words, pull the stick all the way back.
