extended waranty

I just bought a 2001 F-150 xlt with 34,000 miles on it and was thinking of buying a aftermarket waranty.The ford dealership wants $4,500 for a 4 year /48,ooo mile waranty.I didn't put even 2,000 miles on my 94 f-150 last year so I am sure that the 2001 will be used just as much.Has anyone bought a aftermarket waranty and if so have you had to use it and what was your experience with the waranty.Would anyone have a waranty that you would recomend.We have a special needs child and I do not have a lot of money to just throw away on something that is not worh its money that was paid for it.Thanks for any help and may God bless you.

sounds like he want to scew you over. I just bought a GM 4x4 and paid 1600 for total coverage for 3 years

From my expierences, DO NOT EVER even consider a non-factory warrenty.

Why? Did the stealership say IN WRITING that they even would honor this warrenty? Most do NOT honor the aftermarket warrenties they sell, nor does any other repair facility.

The Ford Factory ESP plans are good, they pay and cover what they say they will, at ANY Ford, Lincoln or Mercury dealer, that's right ANY.

Also, if you decide to purchase a warrenty, be VERY VERY careful about the time and mileage coverages.

For example, is a 5yr/60,000 mile ESP plan REALLY a 5yr/60,000 mile plan, or a 2 yr/24,000 miles plan?

How do you tell? Easy, and don't let them try to trick you. Ask (DEMAND) them to tell you when the warrenty ENDS, that's what REALLY counts, then SUBTRACT 36months/36,000 miles from the END of the "warrenty". So a claimed 5/60 is REALLY a 5-3 = 2 YEAR, 60,000-36,000 = 24,000 MILE warrenty even though they CLAIM is covers you for 5/60,000, it REALLY DOES NOT because it offers you ZERO coverage for the first 3 years, 36,000 because that is the FACOTRY warrenty "Bumper to Bumper" warrenty anyway.

So, you are offered a 5/60,000 warrenty for $1200, that's decent for the coverage CLAIMED, but for 2 years/24,000 miles are you REALLY SURE you will need $1200 worth of repairs in that time? I HOPE NOT! If you think you might, get another vehicle!

I thoroughly researched after-market extended warranties and I found the following: Most extended warranty companies are fly-by-night pieces of crap. I found one company that had an excellent record with the Better Business Bureua. (www.bbb.org). The company I chose was warrantywarehouse.com This company was easy to work with, has been in business for a while, is thoroughly insured and affordablely priced. I purchased a 6 year 100K warranty for my 2002 F-150 for around $1500 with a zero deductible, yes ZERO deductible. I currently have 44K on my vehicle, so I I have around 56,000 miles of warranty coverage. Everything is covered on my car with the exception of brake linings, tires, shocks and a few other items. Other than those, everything else is covered with no problem. The one thing that set this company apart from the rest was they required a pre-coverage inspection. All I had to do was take a form they sent me to my local Pep Boys and they inspected my vehicle. (warranty warehouse picked up the tab for the pre-warranty inspection, I did not have to pay a dime!) After my vehilce passed inspection, I was immediately covered. One other good thing about this company is they pay the repair bill with a corporate visa/american express card, no long waits for checks to be sent out. You can choose any repair center you wish, as long as they are a legitimate business with with certified mechanics. As part of your plan, you also get road side assistance such as lock out, tire change, fuel, towing allowance, rental car, per diem for hotel, meals (if more than 50 miles from home)
