spark plug question

Hi everybody, here goes a dumb question, I installed a while back some Bosch 4 electrode platinum plugs, I like the way they give me and extra kick, the question is how long do these plugs last before I need to replace them again? Thanks

I heard these plugs run to hot and burn out quicker than others. I personally have had good performance from bosch platinum plugs. But I don't use them anymore because of what I heard, which is stupid because you shouldn't believe everything you hear. Like right now, I could be full of sh%#. so you may want to disreguard everything said here.

What kind of spark plugs are you running now?

I think I need to replace mine soon. (110,000) they are runing fine but I will probably need to do it by April.

the AC Delco platinum plugs, im not sure if I bought the split fire or standard last time, but I do know they were AC Delco and about $6-7 each.

I installed the Bosch 4 electrode platinum plugs when I did my first tune up. I went to the track two nights later and I was .2 off my normal 1/4 time. I looked everywhere for those .2, and never crossed my mind that it might be the plugs. I finally decided to try a different plug, so I went with the NGK TR55s, and I went right back to my normal time before the Bosch 4s. I know it doesn't happen to everybody, but I was just a little mad that I had spent like $8 a piece for those things, and they made my time worse. Most performance guys with these trucks go with the NGK TR55s and the nitrous guys go with the NGK TR60s. They are super nice plugs and run about $1.40. :biggrin: I love them and will probably never switch to anything else.

They are basically airplane spark plugs for cars. They last / stay clean forever. Idle gets a little un-stable but at high rpm they rock.

Big time for NOS and Turbo/Super charger. More surface area to through the spark.

I put them on my truck at 10,000 and at 350,000 they still are clean. I think they are made out of stainless so they have a lower clean temp.

Something different to try.

They are old school like me. They never really picked up, I never knew why.

I saw that a while back but it has never happened to me. I think the person who told that guy was BS.

If it does have a name or a link to back it up, I consider it B.S.

I think the first generation back in the late 80's but not the new ones.

Either way. Now some of those others ones are real trash.

I guess the NGK / AC-DELCO really are the best.

If you are going to change plugs , DO NOT IGNORE THE WIRES. I did my plugs at 85500 km's and the wires looked fine and the truck ran great afterwards too. Long story short, wires got damaged when i changed the plugs and about 2 months later it started to run rough. I took about 2 months to find out that it was bad boots on the plug wires and it was causing carbon arcing across the porcelin on the plugs. No codes were thrown either this entire time. Ended up having to replace my plugs and wires. GM HAS ALSO CHANGED THE PLUGS THEY USE FROM FACTORY. MY 2000 SILVERADO CAME FROM FACTORY WITH DOUBLE PLATNIUM GAPPED AT .60. THEY NO LONGER USE THESE PLUGS (OBVOIOUSLY FOR A REASON) AND THEY NOW USE THE IRIDIUM PLUGS FROM FACTORY WITH A .40 GAP , NOT THE OLD .60 GAP. If you do use plugs other than AC's i suggest not going with the factory recommended .60 gap. Even the GM tech that worked on my truck said he does not use a .60 gap even if it calls for it.

I run the 10 mm on my Jeep and 8.5 on my Truck.

You can really push these guys to the limit.

Cost is not bad - $155.00 for my truck. 10mm are a lot higher.

But if you want the best.

What is a good brand name for an aftermarket Iridium plug? Also they sell inexpensive boot pullers so you don´t damage the wires. What I do is I wiggle the things off, don´t pull on them straight out.

i have a 2000 gmc sierra 1500 with a 5.3 and 103,000 miles on it. i just replaced the spark plugs, with factory plugs, acdelco platinum plugs, and gapped them at .060, ya it cost me $55 for the plugs, but thats what the manuf. calls for so thats what i put in it, just my two cents

I really think you should read my post on this issue , it is #10. I went with what the MFG suggested and had a ton of problems not to mention the amount of money wasted trying to figure out what the problem was.

what about denso spark plugs are they any good
