69 Plym. Satellite

Hey guys. I wanted to get some others opinion on a car I recently picked up. Found a 69 Plymouth Satellite-318, automatic, with only 32,000 orig. miles on it. Its in excellent condition needing only a couple places fixed before getting a new paint job. It runs and drive like a 32k car should.
Question: Its the original F8 green w/ gold metal flake.

Should I paint it F8 again for originality sake or, is this beauty just far enough down the food chain that even if I paint it orange or red or blue that it just won't matter that much? And, along those lines, would you keep it a stock Satellite or would you make it a RR clone?

Depends on what you want to do with it. The way it is now with the 318, you have a nice weekend cruiser. You'll get decent mileage and the car will be reliable. The only thing I would change would be the color. I'm not a big fan of green. I personally wouldn't build a RR clone. If you want to keep your 318 but would like to get a little more oomph, there is 400hp buildup for the 318 available that won't break the bank.

All of that goes out the window if you want to go radical.

Well, since she's a Satellite, she ain't super desirable. I personally would LOVE to have one, but, most other people prefer Roadrunners. Since she ain't super desirable, most people won't care if she ain't the original color.

I did the same thing with my Road Runner. I don't have any badges or emblems on the car. Only the RR hood and the vin give it away.


On the paint, you could look for a more modern metallic version of a factory color just to be different. I was lucky that the metallic blue I started with looked good enough to keep.

Is there any chance you can rub that paint out and bring it back? It's kind of neat if you can keep the car as a survivor. That might also bump up the value a little.

A survivor is a car that has not been restored, by the way. Survivors in great condition are the top of the food chain when it comes to collectability.

However, as others have said, the plain jane Satellite isn't the most desireable among collectors, and you can basically do what you want without worrying about destroying any rare birds.

Sounds like a great project car to me! This is a great candidate for restification.

Good eye. I used handles from a Dodge minivan. I wanted to make sure that parts would readily available.

Great looking car, Pete, whell and tire combo along with the B-5 blue (I'm guessing) really look fantastic.

It's actually QQ1. Bright Metallic Blue. It looks different depending on the light.
