Is it possible to do a burnout, on a 4.0 SOHC Explorer? If possible how?

the only time ive been able to get it to throw a little smoke is either when i have the wheel turned sharply and floor it from a stop or when i floor it in reverse from a stop (maybe the gear is different enough from first to give you better results?) anyways.. other than that ive noticed its kinda tough without the help of some water on the asphault or somethin.
i wouldnt do it all to much though its not exactly great for your truck.

I tried a couple of times skiding on the road, but I havn't try to burn out. Will it hurt the engine or hp you think? Besides messing up the tires.

Oh yeah, have you try to first hold on the brake and try or go to neutrul and shift quickly to drive, just wondering?

I've tried many a times I used to have the recall Michelin's and there was no way with them damn things  The only time It did do one it was at Lowe's Motor Speedway( :evillol: ) on that smooth concrete. The damn thing just wont power brake.

My 1997 Explorer is still running well. I have changes the tires not long ago, I believe it can do a Burn Out because the engine is still running good, and is pretty fast. I just want to know what is the 'Right Way' to burn out (shifting gears....) someone can explain would be great.

first off if your explorer is a 4x4 it will not do a burn out because it is equipped with TRD (Traction on Demand) witch means that when one tire stars to slip it will engage the other tires for better traction. by trying to do a “burn out" you stand a very good chance of tearing up the trans axles and the transfer case. BUT if you must Do A “burn out" then get you about 1 gallon of bleach and pour it on all four tires then nose the truck up to a good sturdy brick wall and let'r rip. then let us know how it came out. ohhh by the way if you do, do it your on your own

Well A MAN 18 if you know so much about Explorers then why did you post a thread about a burn out? like I said going off 2 year degree in automotive repair and 3 year degree in Diesel engine repair on a free ride from a sponsored program from FORD MOTOR COMPANY the most common Explorer from 96 and up is equipped with automatic for wheel drive if you have one of these then you will probably not be doing any "burn outs" with daddies truck. Unless you have the money to pay the bill to replace or repair the transfer case and or the Trans axle. Beside the fact that I own a 99 ford explorer 4.0 SOHC with a mark II performance chip along with a super tuner programmer KN fuel injection performance kit. and it will not do a burn out because of the automatic 4x4 and I will not beat on my trucks like that because I paid for it with my own money (no Offence) LOL you better go back to soup’n up your Huffy before you jump on somebody that is trying to help you out of a expensive repair bill. Oh by the way I am not a paid mechanic. I have a much more lucrative job for the government. WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? Also the bleach trick will help a little.

I am not mad at the kid if he needs help or wanted to know if it would burn out thats fine, but there no need to jump on somebody that is try'n to give him some pointers so that he doesn't get grounded or have a expensive bill for fixing the truck besides he has not came back to let us know if the truck is a 4x4 or not or anything else !

I was for a bit, I worked on automotive side and in the heavy equipment side plus farm machinery I just did not like being "owned" or tided down to deadlines and things. I kind of still am with what I do for the government and all not only do operate heavy equipment but I also maintain them too everything from automotive to heavy equipment and all kind of proto type stuff that can't be mentioned. I got to the point that if I was building an engine I wanted it right and done my way not the shops way in witch corners get cut. I still build engines in my own shop a home.

Sounds like my mentality. I plan to work at a dealership for alil while.
till I work up enough money to start up a performance and tuning shop. where I can fix up cars with aftermarket upgrades and tune them to their owners needs.
But thats not all of my goal. It's all there to start up a racing team. fix up a good car like a nsx or a mr2. Skyline if i had the major resources. inorder to gain a major sponsor, then it's on. gain international stregnth.
Sell the buisness and race full time. well maybe not sell it but give up managment to race. A buisness is alot of work.
Sounds like a good thing you got going on, brokesilverado, state of the art equipment, sounds like a challenge. I wouldn't mind doing something like that myself.

BTW my Instructor showed me something about a new type of dampening system....or shock absorber
It involves a chemical reaction,
the chemical they use hardens and unhardens quicker than anything out there. The only down side is the price of the chemicals they use.
It's a vast improvment to what we use today.
I think it's old news but have you heard of it? any links where I can read about it?

What type of damping system are you referring to as in shock absorber? There are several types out the like electrically charge hydraulic. witch are way better than what is on the market for vehicles these are mainly used in off road racing I have had some vehicles here that used them and driving across a log coarse felt like driving on new asphalt. That smooth. I have the pleasure of driving all kinds of new technology though my severe off road track. And I do have a good thing going here I like the fact that the big three General motors, Diamond Chrysler, and Ford motor company) use a lot of my designs or Ideals for off road military purposes. IE.. as in different types of suspension components and stronger materials ect. ect.. After this I have thought about going back home to instruct at the Votec School I went to in high school.

I saw a special where a fluid can be hardened when a magnetic field is induced. I recall them talking about the uses of these fluids in long travel shocks of offroad vehicles.

Yea, I have a 1997 Explorer with a 4.0 SOHC, a five speed automatic transmission and RWD and I also would like to know if anyone knows how to do a proper burnout with one of these. It has a decent amount of accleration so I think its capable of it. And even though this could mess up the tranny and wear out the tires, can anyone tell me how to do a burnout with one of these. Its my first SUV. Before this Explorer I had only had underpowered, asian, front-wheel-drive sedans. I'd appreciate any answers.

i believe in one of aman18's bitching posts, he asked if it will do damage to his car besides tires....
well..
YES.....want to replace your tranny?
how about killing your engine.
Punk kids looking to be cool shouldn't be on here. Ford Explorers are NOT made to burnout.
