Bearing Noise?

I've got a 2003 Galant ES V6 that is making what seems to be bearing noise. The noise would probably be best described as a rumbling/grinding/roaring noise coming from the front wheels during slow speeds (or all speeds, but masked by road noise at high speeds). It is most evident when coming to a stop or taking off. The noise is present whether the brake is applied or not.
It sounds like a set of brake pads that are really worn out and scraping against the rotor. But the noise is not affected by the brakes being applied, so I am suspecting front wheel bearings. Are these difficult to change? Are they covered under warranty? I've got 40k miles so the 70k drivetrain warranty is still good, but I don't know if wheel bearings would apply.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like wheel bearings to me. If it wasn't covered under "drivetrain warranty" I would be upset.

yeap that sure does sounds like a bearing problem.
I had the same problem on my 90 galant and 90 mirage that I do not own anymore.
that noise sounds like either a single or twin engine airplane/private jet when you drive on the freeway.
Anyway, call a dealer up about it, because the warranty is bumper to bumper, so technically it should be fixed at no damage to your pockets.
one thing there is a catchy about warranty terms is :
x amount of years or x amount of milege which ever comes first.
